Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Monday’s racing coming to you from Lingfield Park and Haydock Park.
Lingfield Park Best Bets
Race 3: No9 RANSOM
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Ryan Moore
A couple in this maiden have shown ability on a racecourse but in spite of his inexperience RANSOM can trump them. The Kingman colt has worked with winners and looked in great form blowing out for this on Long Hill. He’s definitely one to keep on the right side of, with his stable amongst the winners.
Race 5: No2 GIOVANNI TIEPOLO
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: David Probert
This isn’t the strongest of novices and all being well GIOVANNI TIEPOLO can give his trainer a first winner of the season. The Lawman colt improved from race to race on the all-weather to post his best run when third at Kempton in January. He disappointed when returning to that track in early February, but is worth chancing.
Race 7: No2 DESERT CARAVAN
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: James Doyle
In the colours of The Queen, DESERT CARAVAN can remain unbeaten and complete a hat-trick. He’s taking a huge step up in trip after scoring over nine furlongs on his latest start at Wolverhampton. Although not certain to want it on pedigree, his astute trainer clearly regards him as a staying type and he can prove too classy for his foes.
Haydock Park Best Bets
Race 8: No4 SAISONS D’OR
Trainer: Jedd O’Keeffe – Jockey: J Garrity
SAISONS D’OR shaped like a certain future winner when just edged out at Newcastle last week. Returning to turf, the five-year-old has everything in place for a big run and can go one better. He’s won three times on the surface, prefers a galloping track like this and will be suited by the ground. He should also enjoy a fitness edge on many of his opponents.
Race 9: No3 VULCAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Harry Dunlop – Jockey: Ben Curtis
While there will be a few shorter than him in the betting, VULCAN has as good previous form as anything in the field and figures to be over-priced for his seasonal return. He produced his best effort when third in a big field at Bath in September since when he’s been gelded and lowered 2lb by the assessor for this handicap debut.
Race 10: No1 HARMONIOUS
Trainer: Martyn Meade – Jockey: Cieren Fallon
The nightcap can fall to HARMONIOUS even though he can’t be said to have got in lightly on this handicap debut. He showed ability in a couple of all-weather maidens in February and should improve from that over this longer trip and switched into a handicap. His stable was unlucky not to put one on the board last week, and he will not lack for fitness.
