CHEPSTOW
Race 2 No5 COLONEL KEATING (Each Way)
Trainer: Richard Rowe – Jockey: Tabitha Worsley
COLONEL KEATING is suited by courses like this with a long home straight, as evidenced by his good run in defeat here last season and also at Lingfield. He needs to jump off smartly and be competitive, as it’s hard for horses to come from off the pace here. Poldark Cross is getting closer to a first success, and is definitely with inclusion in exotic permutations.
Race 4 THE WIDDOW MAKER (Nap)
Trainer: Colin Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell
THE WIDDOW MAKER to fences like a duck to water when scoring at Exeter and can successfully concede 5lb to The Edgar Wallace, who skipped an opportunity last week to wait for this.
Race 6 No3 CELMA DES BOIS (Each Way)
Trainer: Richard Rowe – Jockey: Niall Houlihan
CELMA DES BOIS has shown a liking for Leicester with a win and a place in two visits this season and also ran well to earn on both visits here last term. Given plenty to do before getting tired on his latest start, he should benefit from being ridden more handily, as he’s a good jumper and strong traveller.
CARLISLE
Race 3 No3 UNCLE ALASTAIR (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Brian Hughes
The fragile UNCLE ALASTAIR has run into a couple of well-handicapped foes when finishing second at this course and Wetherby in as many outings this season. He remains in smart company, but this is perhaps more of a level 0laying field for him.
Race 4 No1 MALPAS
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes
A deserved first success since the autumn here for MALPAS has put his tail up for what should result in a third course triumph for the top weight, who has title race leader Hughes back in the hot seat.
Race 7 No3 FEROCIOUS
Trainer: Miss K Leckenby – Jockey: Mr Joe Wright
FEROCIOUS doesn’t do anything in a hurry, but after showing tenacity to cling onto second behind a hot favourite at Musselburgh he can further raise his game switched to this more suitable (stiffer) track.
