SALISBURY
Race 1 No3 JUNGLE MAC
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: William Buick
JUNGLE MAC missed the break and was twice denied a gap when finishing sixth on his Redcar introduction. The son of Bungleinthejungle has learned plenty from that first offering, and should have too many guns for paper favourite Sky Wizard.
Race 4 No7 LION TAMER (Nap)
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
LION TAMER was no match for Enfjaar at Chelmsford but the Roaring Lion colt is expected to fare better now switched to turf. He faces stern opposition from Equatorial, but can get the job done.
Race 7 No6 GENTLE WHINNY (Each Way)
Trainer: Denis Coakley – Jockey: William Buick
One with scope for progression in this fillies’ handicap is outsider GENTLE WHINNY. The daughter of Churchill has been afforded plenty of time to take in her first run back in a hot heat at Newmarket’s Craven meeting, and having benefitted from that experience can now earn at a working man’s price.
BRIGHTON
Race 2 No4 ROYAL BLAZE (Each Way)
Trainer: Marcus Tregoning – Jockey: Dougie Costello
Facing two opponents with multiple place form, the more inexperienced ROYAL BLAZE is the value option to improve past them. The son of Muhaarar ran green when fifth over six furlongs on his Goodwood debut. He’s learned much from that experience, and has the balance to handle this undulating track which is not dissimilar.
Race 7 No2 DE VEGAS KID (Each Way)
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Mollie Phillips
This is the time of year when DE VEGAS KID makes Brighton a regular port of call. The nine-year-old’s last success was exactly a year ago after which he earned in three of his next four visits. And although his winter campaign on the all-weather proved fruitless, he needs respecting on a return to his happy hunting ground.
SOUTHWELL
Race 6 No1 GIVE IT SOME TEDDY (Each Way
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Duran Fentiman
Breaking from the rail, GIVE IT SOME TEDDY could be dangerous under top weight if getting away on terms with the leaders. He’s proved easy to back on each of his three outings this season, and though his all-weather record is uninspiring he is fresh and well in this return from a short break.
Race 8 No10 TYPICAL WOMAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Ian Williams – Jockey: Ray Dawson
TYPICAL WOMAN is one to monitor for a market move. The Nathaniel filly put in a much improved effort to trouble the judge in a big field at Newbury, a run that should have primed her for today’s task.
AYR
Race 5 No8 CHURCHELLA (Nap)
Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Jason Watson
CHURCHELLA jumps off the page as a likely winner of this bottom grade handicap. She put in a career best on her latest start on handicap debut at Leicester when a 20-1 roughie. It took an odds-on shot to thwart her that day, and there’s nothing of his ilk (Gallimimus) in opposition here.
WETHERBY
Race 3 No10 FAKHRA (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Kevin Stott
FAKHRA looks to hold the aces on her long journey from Wiltshire. The Zoustar filly made a bold attempt to recover from a slow start on her Chepstow debut to be beaten just threequarters of a length. That should have put the necessary cutting edge of her to open her account as the best bet of the night.
Race 7 No2 NIGHTOUT
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Sean Kirrane
NIGHTOUT rarely fails to take away a cheque but the grey now enjoys a great chance to notch a first win. It’s taken him two starts to reach concert pitch and he should prove worth waiting for.
