CHEPSTOW

Race 3 No3 CLOUD CUCKOO (Each Way)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: George Rooke

This stable has done well with its runners at the smaller southern courses and CLOUD CUCKOO can give further fuel to that trend. The gelding only recently obtained a handicap rating, and can improve off his comeback run to take away a cheque in the colours of his trainer at the main expense of On Edge, who is well worth a saver.

Race 6 No2 TIME’S EYE (Nap)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Dougie Costello

TIME’S EYE is a home-bred filly from a very good family who should have benefitted from her earning return when fourth to PREPENSE at Newmarket. Her final outing as a juvenile has worked out especially well, and she has less miles on her racing clock than the other contenders for this distaffers’ handicap.

Race 7 No4 SYMPATHISE (Each Way)
Trainer: Victor Dartnall – Jockey: Rhiain Ingram

From a jumps stable that does well with its occasional runner on the Flat, SYMPATHISE makes abundant appeal in the nightcap. She went up 2lb for opening her account in gritty fashion over a shorter trip at Wolverhampton and has plenty of room for manoeuvre on the improvement ladder

BEVERLEY

Race 2 No1 BOMBAY BAZAAR (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Joe Garritty

BOMBAY BAZAAR’s racing experience might give him the edge over Blue Point newcomer Politico for whom I can pass on a favourable message. Richard Fahey’s colt shaped well to trouble the judge at Thirsk, and in the three weeks since that first run has delighted connections.

Race 6 No8 TIAMAT (Each Way)
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: PJ McDonald

The Bethell yard is shelling out winners like peas from a pod, and this augurs well for TIAMAT who has a plum draw for this race round a right-handed bend. The Aclaim filly was a winner on debut last year and returned to chase home Centre Court on what was only her third start at Newcastle. She holds plenty of room for progression in a race that in fairness will take a bit of winning.

NEWCASTLE

Race 1 No4 SPECIAL RATE (Nap)
Trainer: Phil Kirby – Jockey: Thomas Dowson

It could pay to follow the Kirby stable on a tricky jumps card. SPECIAL RATE needs to halt the unbeaten run of Quaresome, but his effort to get to within two lengths of the latter’s stablemate Ballyporeen looks very solid form. Furthermore, my Nap is getting 7lb from his penalised foe.

Race 8 No1 TOMMY TIME
Trainer: Phil Kirby – Jockey: Thomas Dowson

TOMMY TIME was a 130,000 Euros purchase after impressively taking out a Kilbeggan bumper on debut. To show he’s going to have a chance of repaying his owners’ investment he needs to deliver in this concluding contest.

WETHERBY

Race 1 No4 MARROOF
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Danny Tudhope

Blue Point has made a bright start to his stallion career and MARROOF can give the rookie another winner in this maiden run over just short of six furlongs. Hannon doesn’t bring many two-year-olds to this neck of Yorkshire, and that is a tip in itself for the selection, who shaped well when third to Succession at Bath and will be a lot more streetwise.

Race 5 No3 MORNING SUN (Nap)
Trainer: Keith Dalgleish – Jockey: Billy Garritty

MORNING SUN did us a good turn when powering home on his second outing for Dalgleish at Ayr. Ridden prominently, he surged clear at the quarter pole and hacked up to show what a shrewd purchase he’d been at the Sales. The four-year-old has a 5lb penalty to contend with, but is clearly in great heart.

SANDOWN PARK

Race 1 No6 MISS MACH ONE
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: William Buick

MISS MACH ONE didn’t go unbacked on debut at Newmarket and was competitive until weakening on the uphill run to the line. The daughter of Invincible Army has made good strides in her subsequent work at home, as you expect with horses from this stable, and Buick is an eye-taking booking for her.

Race 3 No4 SLIPOFTHEPEN (Nap)
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: James Doyle

Plans for the King’s SLIPOFTHEPEN could well include Royal Ascot if he preserves his unbeaten record with victory in this Heron Stakes (Listed). Gosden has plundered the contest in three of the last four years and their son of Night Of Thunder has pleased in his work since scoring at Kempton. Some of that work happened on turf, and he’s fully in the zone towards completing a hat-trick.

Race 6 No3 MOUNTAIN QUEEN
Trainer: Tom Dascombe – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

Mount Nelson filly MOUNTAIN QUEEN cuts back a tad on the distance ladder after a couple of solid earning runs this year. She looks the logical pick in this tricky heat, with Arenas Del Tiempo one that could give her problems.
