Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from Thursday’s racing taking place at Bath, Hamilton Park, & Salisbury.
BATH
Race 3: No3 – TEDDY B (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass
With eight runners this is a good race for Each Way betting, and newcomer TEDDY B might reward modest support. The Sepoy gelding will come on for this first visit to a racecourse and might run green, but he has ability, and the public form of the main contenders isn’t very good.
Race 8: No5 – BORN TO PLEASE (Nap)
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: David Probert
Usher sets a poser by running both Bayston Hill and BORM TO PLEASE but the latter seems in a better position to deliver. The mare clearly needed her first run after lockdown, as she improved to finish a good third to Croeso Cymraeg at Sandown when sent off a 33-1 roughie. It took her a couple of outings to reach peak fitness last year, after which she won on turf on the Flat, and over hurdles. She can show she’s in a similar place from which to strike.
HAMILTON PARK
Race 3: No11 – CREDIBLE
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Paddy Mathers
It should be a case of third time lucky for the consistent CREDIBLE in this maiden. The Pivotal filly is home and hosed if able to repeat her debut effort to run the very smart Muker to a neck at York. But she was then turned over by Blackberry when starting 1-2 at Doncaster. Nevertheless, she clearly has stacks of ability and should make short work of her foes.
Race 5: No6 – POET’S DAWN
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan
The Easterby stable is doing ultra well with its handicappers and POET’S DAWN can add to its successes by taking out this Class 4. The Poet’s Vouce gelding had gone off the radar before finishing third in a blanket finish at Beverley last time, shaping as if he was coming back to the boil. The stiff uphill finish here is likely to see him doing his best work at the business end.
Race 7: No5 – TIGERTEN (Nap)
Trainer: Joe Tuite – Jockey: Rossa Ryan
TIGERTEN remains an unexposed improver in spite of bolting up at Catterick last week. He was a seven and a half lengths scorer and has to be considered well in reappearing quickly under a 6lb penalty on only a sixth career start.
SALISBURY
Race 2: No7 – SYCAMORE (Each Way)
Trainer: Martyn Meade – Jockey: George Wood
The beautifully-bred SYCAMORE could represent a bit of value in the novice stakes, and especially if thunderstorms arrive at the track. The Kingman colt started only 7-2 for his debut here when making a midfield finish behind Baashir. He’s entitled to come on a bundle for that, and being out of a Pivotal mare could well appreciate some cut in the ground.
Race 4: No4 – QUEEN POWER (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa
QUEEN POWER is the best filly in this Listed feature and can gain an overdue first win of the season. She’s kept company with the best of her sex, finishing second to Terebellum in a Group 2 at Newmarket, third to Nazeef in a Group 3 at Ascot and fourth to Irish Oaks winner Fancy Blue in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. A repeat of any of those efforts should be enough to see her safe home.
Race 9: No6 – ALPINE MISTRAL
Trainer: Shaun Keightley – Jockey: Josephine Gordon
ALPINE MISTRAL is a filly on the March and can complete a hat-trick in the nightcap. Her recent successes at Ripon and Yarmouth were gained by an aggregate of more than nine lengths, and the handicapper might not have caught up with her yet. She’s had three weeks to recover from that latest success, and is fresh and fancied to go in again.
