Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from Wednesday’s racing at Beverley, Hamilton and Newton Abbot.
Beverley Best Bets
Race 1: BIRKENHEAD (1)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Callum Shepherd
In spite of having to carry a penalty the cards are stacked in favour of course winner BIRKENHEAD as he takes a class drop into this claimer. The visored selection appreciated the stiff finish when opening his account over these five furlongs and only narrowly lost out in two subsequent visits to Ripon. Well drawn, he should be too professional for these rivals.
Race 8: DEAR MIRIAM (2)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Callum Shepherd
The claims of DEAR MIRIAM are not obvious as her best form in three career starts came on Polytrack. However, she’s shown promise in her work and this step up to a mile and a half can see her get into the shake-up.
Hamilton Best Bet
Race 3: ARMANDIHAN (3)
Trainer: Kevin Ryan
Jockey: Kevin Scott
This does not look as competitive as the York race in which ARMANDIHAN finished second in a 17-runner Class 4. Underfoot conditions will be softer than for that race won in decisive fashion by Starcaster. As that was his best effort in three outings this season he probably has scope for further improvement.
Newton Abbot Best Bet
Race 7: SIZING AT MIDNIGHT (7)
Trainer: Colin Tizzard
Jockey: Harry Cobden
On his first start of the new season SIZING AT MIDNIGHT travelled and jumped well to get the job done in a big field of handicappers at Ffos Las. His career has been stop-start, and as a relatively lightly raced individual he’s capable of building on it, with Southfield Torr his biggest barrier to victory.
