Tamworth – Friday 03 April 2020

International Racing: Thursday 02 April 2020 – Cairns

Tamworth plays host to a very competitive nine-race programme. The best bet on the card is MELTED MOMENTS who takes his place in Race 5. He won his last start well and in a weak field he should notch up his 16th career victory.

Race 1
MISCHIEF MANAGED found plenty of betting support when producing a solid debut effort over 1100m. She was in the perfect position turning for home but did not quite go on with the effort. The daughter of Spill The Beans would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to side with here. MEYDAN LASS produced a promising debut run over this distance. She showed some pace that day and stayed on well at the business end. She is drawn in pole position and should have the run of the race. BAY OF BENGAL showed good improvement in his last start over this distance. He is having his peak run this afternoon and may be the first male past the finishing post. LUCKY SHADOW is an unraced daughter of Super One. She finished 2nd in her only barrier trial coming into this race. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 2
JUSTITIA just missed when finding heavy betting support on debut. She was very green and hard ridden around the turn before making up some good ground in the closing stages. She will enjoy the step up to the mile and with the natural improvement that is expected, she has a good chance of going one better today. TREBLE CHEF has finished 2nd in his last two starts over this distance. He set the pace in his last start and only managed to hold off the winner till the last 100m. He does have a wide barrier position to deal with today, but he should use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy. RAINY DAY showed good signs of a form return in her last start. Ashley Morgan retains the ride this afternoon and the pair merit healthy respect. GERWIG has fair recent form to her credit. She tries the mile for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she can run into the minor money.

Race 3
This is a very competitive Maiden Handicap and caution is advised. The narrow first selection goes to SHAMUS STAR from the Todd Howlett stable. He ran a good race in his first run back from a 20-week break and followed that up with a fair second run after a rest over this distance. He is having his peak run this afternoon and should be at peak fitness. From his mid-field draw, he should be right there in the run down to the wire. OUR MATE CHUCKLES has shown good improvement in his last two starts. He didn’t get the best of beginnings last time, but the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. He should have no issues with the step up in distance and should pose a threat to the top choice. BELLA RUBINO is a filly taking on the boys. She has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. She makes her course debut and if suited to the track, she should have a chance in this line-up. MARY MAGPIE has improved in her last two outings. It must be noted that the form of her last race has been franked. She must be included in all bets.

Race 4
BRASH is lightly raced and showed good improvement in his last start over the minimum trip. He made up some good ground in the straight that day which suggests that he will enjoy the rise to six furlongs. Keagan Latham who was aboard the son of Murtajill on debut, steps back into the saddle and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. RAGLAN showed good improvement in his last start over this distance. He makes his stable debut from a wide barrier position this afternoon, but that should not pose a problem as he will use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy. NOW OR NEVER showed good signs of returning to best form in her last start. She receives her sex allowance this afternoon and could be one for the placings. FREEDOM’S FIRE is not the most consistent sort, but if repeating his last run over this type of distance, he could be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 5
MELTED MOMENTS is the best bet on today’s card. He is in good form recently and ran on well to win his last start over 1530m. He will enjoy the rise in distance and he gets the services of a 4kg claiming apprentice. He does not meet the strongest of fields today and should notch up his 16th career victory. NEW ENDEAVOUR was a tad disappointing in the Armidale Cup last time. He wasn’t too far behind the winner in previous outings and has won his only attempt over today’s distance. On best form shown, he should pose the biggest threat to the top selection. PINOT GIRLS showed good signs of returning to best form in his last start. He runs well over this distance with a win and four third place finishes from as many outings. If confirming his recent improvement, he should be involved in the finish. KILMARNOCK is slowly coming back to best form. He is drawn in pole position today and can improve to run into the placings.

Race 6
This is another open contest and caution is advised. The very tentative first selection is LEISA LOUISE who was an impressive winner on debut over six furlongs. She raced wide around the turn, but finished best of all to win going away. She does take on stronger this afternoon, but the manner in which she won last time suggests that there is more to come. She will enjoy the step up in distance and should follow up with another win. SOLVENCY won on debut on this course and followed that up with a good 3rd place finish. She looks to have some ability and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should pose a threat to the top choice. CHASTISE is in good form this season with a record of one win, three seconds and two third place finishes from eight outings. He cannot be ignored in this line-up. ELUSIVE EAGLE has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He is drawn well this afternoon and should be one to contest the finish.

Race 7
I’M ON BREAK followed up his maiden win with another good victory last time. He showed plenty of speed in those two victories and was just too good for the rest of the field on both occasions. He does step up in trip again and if not using up too much energy early on, he may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. As such, he has a good chance of notching up the hat-trick. TITUS has very good consistent formlines to his name. He has finished second four times and third on three occasions, from eight outings this season. Should the top selection fluff his lines, he may have his consistency rewarded this afternoon. JOEY’S CHANCE was a tad disappointing in his last start, five days ago. However, he is better suited to today’s distance and if this run hasn’t come too soon, he may be involved in the finish. VALLEY’S SISTER is a filly taking on the males. She was narrowly beaten at long odds last time and if repeating that run here, she could surprise in this field.

Race 8
PURE FAITH is the value bet on today’s card. She was an impressive maiden winner over six furlongs and followed that up with another good victory over seven furlongs last time. She does take on stronger opposition this afternoon, but the manner in which she won those two starts suggests there is more in the tank. Keagan Latham does duty and she can notch up the hat-trick. WHITELEY has produced three good runs since his 28 week lay-off. He has won his only attempt over this course and distance. On best form shown, he should pose a threat to the top selection. LOCHITA has some decent recent form to her name. She was a good winner of her penultimate start over this distance and if repeating that effort today, she should be right there in the run down to the wire. MUSIC BOX DANCER is much better than her last two starts suggest. She won her only attempt when trying this distance and could be one to upset in this field.

Race 9
DUBAI HARBOUR has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has a good record this season with two wins, two seconds and three third place finishes from eight outings. He is drawn widest of all, but that shouldn’t be a problem as he should have the pace to get across without using up too much energy. LA LA LOOPSY is a mare taking on males and she is returning from an 18-week break. She has won twice from three starts when returning from a break and must be included in all bets. KNOCK TOFF is much better than his last start suggests. He has won twice from three attempts over today’s distance and merits healthy respect. TYPHOON BONNY showed good signs of a form return in her second run after a rest last time. She is making her course debut this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. Louise Day takes the ride and the pair should be right there at the finish.
