He has a bit to find with the lightly raced pairing of BAYLISIANA and CORAL FEVER on the Arctica c & d performance on 22/08 but his experience and the equipping of blinkers could prove significant.

Once again some potentially top quality sorts go to post and this formline could certainly be worth following during the season. ROMANY PRINCE has an impressive turn of foot and that was evident after he pulverized his maiden rivals over a mile on this track last time out. The well-related Kahal colt should be stronger after a subsequent 14 week absence and he has huge room for improvement. His high merit rating isn’t surprising and the Ferraris inmate should be very competitive on his handicap debut.

This contest could be a replica of the previous event as a likely false pace is expected. The KZN raider ICE MACHINE’s brilliant turn of foot will certainly come into play on this tight circuit and a sedate gallop just enhances his chances. The seven-year old gelding has been plagued with issues throughout his career but oozes class and only his stamina cost him what seemed certain victory over the champion Futura in a Grade 1 on Gold Cup day. He deserved the short break and his wily old conditioner has found the perfect contest to start a Gauteng raid. The Charles Laird inmate is best in on official ratings by some distance and could suit Fortune’s riding style to perfection.
Race 8: BELONG TO ME(1)

BELONG TO ME is in great form and he is well-weighted in this competitive sprint. The speedy four-year old bay colt is unbeaten from two efforts on this track and he was nabbed late over slightly further by a top sort, seven weeks ago. This c & d distance will suit him perfecly and with a few other very fast types present, he will enjoy racing just off the likely suicidal pace.

SPANISH KISS is effective on both surfaces and she showed her true capabilities when drawing off to record a comfortable maiden victory in a competitive line-up on the Vaal sand, two weeks ago. She rises in class on her handicap debut but has plenty more improvement to come. The well-related daughter of Toreador proved her worth on the grass when she stayed on for 2nd on debut behind a subsequent winner. Interestingly, she is the solitary ride for top jockey Francois Herholdt on today’s card.
