Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: SOUTH ATLANTIC(12)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

SOUTH ATLANTIC attracted some outside betting support when she made a decent debut over six furlongs at the Vaal on the first day of December. She is obviously showing fair work back home and the Mike de Kock inmate ran on steadily for 4th after being slow into stride. She was beaten just under four lengths at the line but would have benefitted from the outing and should make natural improvement. The daughter of Horse Chestnut is expected to love the extra 250m and she gets equipped with alumites for the first time. The other plusses are her midfield draw on her track debut and the fact that she is the solitary ride of jockey Randall Simons on the card.

Race 3: SMARTIFACT(10)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY

SMARTIFACT made the expected improvement when trying ten furlongs second time out but the Sean Tarry inmate may have just needed the run. He only failed by a neck at the line but will be fitter today and could prefer this slight drop in distance. This tight circuit could suit his running style and the Lateral colt has strong claims of going one better. His good draw is an obvious plus.

Top Bet
Race 5: ROMANY PRINCE(3)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING – Trainer: Ormond FERRARIS

This is an intriguing graduation contest which should be dominated by the three-year olds. The most interesting entrant has to be the course specialist ROMANY PRINCE who is clearly on the up. The main worry is whether he will take his place in this line-up as he was carded to race in a feature on 16/01 He has plenty going for him in this event though, having cruised to victory in his last start over 1450m at graduation level and he is extremely well treated at the weights. His swift turn of foot is his main weapon on this track and the son of Kahal should take all the beating, if he runs.

Race 6: JOAN RANGER(5)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS

JOAN RANGER is fairly well in at the weights in this graduation contest and she is better than her disappointing last feature run behind a top class sort. She had quality form prior to that and was close-up behind a Grade 1 placed runner in her penultimate outing. The daughter of Horse Chestnut has track experience and she should go close, despite her awkward draw.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 4: GIMMEABREAK(2)
Jockey: Chase MAUJEAN – Trainer: Grant MAROUN

The Qarman c & d formline on 24/11 could be worth following in this competitive maiden contest and GIMMEABREAK gets the nod to bounce back to her best form. It must be noted that the daughter of Overlord was carded to race on 16/01 so her progress there should be monitored. She had two dismal recent showings against male rivals but caught the eye on her c & d debut despite being slightly slow into stride. She was only a neck adrift of HONEYBUSH TEA that day and clearly has more scope than the long-time maiden. She can turn things around despite being 1kg worse off at the weights.
