Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Sunday’s racing taking place Kelso and Southwell.
Kelso Best Bets
Race 1: ELF DE RE (1)
Trainer: Arthur Thomson
Jockey: Ryan Mania
Having absolutely hacked up over the minimum trip at this course last month, ELF DE RE should represent some value against Kiltealy Briggs in this much longer novices’ hurdle. The latter will start at prohibitive odds but the selection looks a must to either win or finish second.
Race 2: CHARLIE SNOW ANGEL (8)
Trainer: Miss S Forster
Jockey: Jamie Hamilton
CHARLIE SNOW ANGEL has done us a favour at this course where he is hard to beat, and even though higher in the weights the 11yo has a good chance of completing a hat-trick. He does himself a favour by never winning by far, thereby restricting what action the assessor can take against him.
Race 4: ELVIS MAIL (2)
Trainer: Nick Alexander
Jockey: Craig Nichol
This looks a tightly knit affair but ELVIS MAIL is worth backing. He impressed when scoring on his comeback but could never get competitive in Epatante’s race at Newbury where he was ridden too confidently and given too much to do. He is better than that form suggests and can bounce back.
Race 6: KNOCKOURA (5)
Trainer: Maurice Barnes
Jockey: Ross Chapman
KNOCKOURA has been a revelation this season and is in the mood to complete a fine hat-trick. He idled after being left in front too soon at Bangor last time, and good value for his eventual three lengths winning margin over Bob Ford.
Southwell Best Bets
Race 4: ANGEL LANE (4)
Trainer: Karl Burke
Jockey: C Lee
Twice a winner here and obviously happy on the Fibresand surface, ANGEL LANE can follow up a smooth triumph gained here over a slightly shorter trip at the start of the month. The selection could be named the winner some way out and has taken the race in her stride.
