NEWMARKET

Race 3 – FRANKNESS 7/2

FRANKNESS looks a runner on the up ahead of the British EBF 40th Anniversary Premier Fillies’ Handicap.

A winner at Goodwood in June, she ran well enough in a couple of hot handicaps before regaining the winning thread when reverting to distaff company at Salisbury earlier this month.

Triumphing off a mark of 89, she showed a fine attitude to beat the reopposing Al Simmo by a length and a 4lb rise may not be enough of an anchor.

Race 4 – ALYANAABI 4/1

ALYANAABI can graduate to Group Three glory in the Tattersalls Stakes, the headline event on the first day.

Owen Burrows’ charge looked a smart newcomer when winning at Salisbury in June, backing up his fine pedigree with a cosy length-and-a-quarter victory over six furlongs in a race that has produced two subsequent winners.

Connections felt he merited a move up to Listed company and seven furlongs on his next start, contesting the Pat Eddery Stakes at Ascot in July.

Alyanaabi had to wait for a gap to open up before launching his challenge that day, eventually coming home just under five lengths behind an on-form Rosallion and looking as though there is more to come.

While the winner has not franked the form subsequently, runner-up Al Musmak has struck Listed gold while Dancing Gemini, who was beaten 10 lengths into fifth by the selection, hacked up in a decent Doncaster heat and is booked for a Group One date.

Race 5 – TRAWLERMAN 1/4

TRAWLERMAN made a successful return to British action earlier this month and can kick on again in the Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes.

Last year’s Ebor hero ran a fine race to take third in the Long Distance Cup at Ascot last October, but floundered when sent to Saudi Arabia and Dubai at the start of the year.

The five-year-old put two disappointing runs behind him with a bloodless success at Salisbury and this Listed contest is the ideal stopping point on the way to another Champions Day outing.

Race 8 – PJANOO 13/10

The Richard Spencer-trained PJANOO won narrowly over one mile at Windsor wearing first-time cheekpieces before a fine second in a competitive event at Wolverhampton last time.

He can return to winning ways in what looks like a decent opportunity.
Promoter continues to slide down the weights and could do better with blinkers now applied. Evania and First Officer are worth a look too.

PONTEFRACT

Race 1 – TILIA CORDATA 9/2

TILIA CORDATA was off the mark on similar ground at Salisbury in August and may replicate rated 3lbs higher.

Dark Crusade remains a maiden after six outings however did show plenty when fourth behind Opal Storm over five furlongs at Carlisle three weeks ago.

The former was resuming from a break that day and could go close for that run while the latter has since finished fourth tackling five furlongs at Redcar and cannot be ignored off the same mark.

Race 3 – ZAYINA 3/1

George Boughey’s ZAYINA contests the K C Sofas Castleford Restricted Novice Stakes after finishing fourth on debut at Beverley last month.
She had to race a bit wide on the Westwood, so her three-and-a-half-length defeat can be upgraded.

Race 4 – KING LEAR 2/1

Boughey also has KING LEAR making his handicap bow after winning one of his three outings in maiden and novice company.

He was beaten just a head under a 7lb penalty at Goodwood at the start of the month and an opening mark of 93 does not appear insurmountable in the Simon Scrope Dalby Screw-Driver Handicap.

Race 7 – TRIBAL HUNTER 6/1

TRIBAL HUNTER is trained by Richard Fahey and been off the track for more than a year.

Looked good winning on soft ground at Hamilton on his second career outing and receives a favourable mark now handicapping.

Previous course and distance winner Emily Post won here two starts ago and only beaten fourth at Hamilton off this mark last time.

Others to consider include Mersea and Milbanke.

SOUTHWELL

Race 1 – LORD TORRANGA 11/2

LORD TORRANGA made the frame on past four outings and deserves to break through for a win.

Good second on the all-weather at Newcastle in his latest and a bold bid is anticipated again.

Lincoln Rockstar is a proven stayer. Solid third at Redcar and switch to the all-weather could bring out further improvement.

All About Alice and Induro De Fontaine should not be dismissed.

Race 4 – OWENS LAD 11/2

OWENS LAD broke through for a success at Carlisle in late August. Followed up with a good second on the same track and appears to be racing off a winnable mark. Is a proven stayer with solid credentials.

Hashtagmetoo draws closer to a well-deserved success after three consecutive placings. Form on the all-weather including a third at Wolverhampton in latest trip.

The Pug and Bay Of Naples should also be in your calculations.

Race 6 -FLYING PANTHER

FLYING PANTEHR aims for back-to-back wins following a one-mile success on the all-weather. Will be well-supported on current form and appears to be still on a winnable mark.

Sprezzatura placed twice from past three outings including a third at Lingfield tackling this trip. Sixth at Chelmsford in latest venture was over a distance shorter than ideal.

War Defender seeks a double. Justified favouritism scoring by a nose at Musselburgh and switch to the all-weather could keep him in the mix.

Race 8 – ELOPED

Eloped had been drawing closer to a win when securing a three-length success at Wolverhampton in latest outing. Proven with this trip and a bold bid is anticipated.

Folk Star aims for back-to-back victories following a half-a-length win at Southwell. Steps up marginally in trip which won’t pose an issue.

Turner Girl carries top weight. Only denied a nose over in latest contest. Apprentice offers some weight relief tackling a sharper test.
