Ultima Handicap Chase Preview

A good case can be made for MISTER WHITAKER who brings a class element into the most competetive chase of the week, containing 24 runners.
Mick Channon’s charge, winner of the Close Brothers Novices’ Handicap Chase exactly a year ago, goes to post fresh from a light campaign and everything about his form over two and a half miles indicates he wants this step up in trip.
He has worked superbly in his preparation and the booking of Brian Hughes can only be a major plus.
Another eyecatcher is SINGLEFARMPAYMENT who hasn’t enjoyed the rub of the green so far this season and often flatters to deceive. His stable is running into form at the right time and this strong traveller can get into the argument.
One line of form puts COGRY into the argument and even though the latter ran disappointingly at Warwick in January he came back with excuses. Furthermore, should the anticipated rain hit the course tomorrow it will favour this out and out stayer.
Paul Nicholls has had this in mind for the unexposed GIVE ME A COPPER for some time and the nine-year-old has been the subject of a sustained gamble for the race.
MINELLA ROCCO was thought of as a Gold Cup horse not long ago and if there were to be a ‘plot’ in the race this JP McManus owned horse could be the one.
