Race 5

PERUNO has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a third place finish next time out over 1200M, just over two lengths back from the winner, but he was forced to race three wide without cover on that occasion, but still managed to stay on well over the closing stages. The gelding faces a wide draw ten, but he should be doing his best work late.

SNAPPY JIM overraced in the middle stages, but finished powerfully over the final 100M to win his last start over 1100M by a head. He is drawn wide one outside the top pick, but on the plus side he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

THOUGHTFUL sat just behind the leaders, but raced very green over the final 200M and shifted outwards when ending up in fourth place last time out over 1300M, just over five lengths back from the victor. He will have to negotiate a wideish gate eight, but nevertheless, he should be included in all bets.

Race 6

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. There is also an unraced runner in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether her connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for her should be respected. SPIRIT IN THE DARK is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when third over 1000M, 2.7L behind the victor, when returning from a 25 week break. That effort was encouraging as she had to weave her way through traffic down the home straight. From her handy draw three, she looks to be the one to side with here.

THE MAIN EVENT has only had two runs to date, finishing second on debut over 1000M and then nineth next time out over 1100M, 8.3L adrift of the winner, but he did race three wide without cover in that event and was immediately rested for 33 weeks. He returns here without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust and will have to deal with a wide gate sixteen, but he should have come on further and should be right up there when they hit the line.

COMMANDORO has posted two solid last runs despite losing two lengths at the start, coming the widest into the home straight and hanging in from the 200M mark to finish third last time out over 1000M, just a half length off the winner. The gelding is not drawn much better in gate fifteen, but he should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 7

TULLA PARK is a winner of three of his last five starts, the latest over 1000M by a half length. He struck the front from some way back at the 200M pole that day to win easing down. From draw five, he will be hoping to chalk up a quick double and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

BODY BOB was returning from a 14 week rest when showing marked improvement to end up in fifth spot last time out over 1000M, just over five lengths adrift of the victor. The gelding gets gate seven and if able to confirm that last effort, he could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.

CAPITAL HEART kicked clear of the opposition at the 200M mark to win his latest outing over 1400M by one and a half lengths, when having his first run for his new trainer. The gelding jumps from a useful gate three and with having 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and he should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, MR METRICS won over 1400M three runs back, finished third in his penultimate start over 1200M and then nineth in his latest outing back over 1400M, just over six lengths behind the winner, but he was bumped at the start and race wide in the early stages, so he had his excuses. The form of that race has been franked and with him having his peak run after returning from a 36 week spell and having a cozy draw four, he could prove hard to topple.

KEN’KER had finished second and third over 1600M in his two runs prior to being a tad disappointing when ending up in seventh place last time out over the same journey, 3.2L back from the winner. The gelding will have to deal with a wide draw fourteen, but he will be hoping to bounce back to his better form taking on this line-up.

SPRITELY EMILY is a 9yr old mare bumping males, but she goes for her hat-trick after two victories over 1600M, the latest by just a short-head. She hit the front at the top of the home stretch in that event and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. She has pulled gate seven and could complete the trifecta.
