Race 5

ALMAHERO has not been too far off the action in his last three outings since winning his maiden race four runs back, the latest when third over a mile, three and a half lengths behind the winner, but it should be noted that he had to be held up at the top of the home straight that day and then only saw daylight at the 200M pole, before finishing off his race well. From draw two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

DENMISS is a 7yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when fourth over seven furlongs, just under two lengths and a half lengths adrift of the victor. If she has continued down that same path of improvement and from a handy gate four, she should give the males a good run for their money.

OBELOS has posted solid form in his last four outings, the latest when making good late progress to end up in third place over 1300M, beaten just a length and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He will have to negotiate a wide draw eleven, but nevertheless should be included in all bets.

Race 6

QUIET RIOT was disappointing when finishing fourth last time out over 1100M, 7.3L adrift of the winner, but he was reported to have been slow to recover that day and was immediately rested for 22 weeks. He returns here after winning both of his barrier trials and jumping from gate seven, he will be looking to bounce back to his better form here.

DELACOUR is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she has cracked pole position and won over this sprint trip three runs back before finishing sixth last time out when stepping up to 1100M, 3.3 lengths back from the victor. She is a speedy sort who should do better over what appears to be a more suitable distance.

BLITZAR showed solid improvement to win his last start over 1300M, albeit by just a head. He raced just behind the leaders in that contest and then kicked clear at the 200M mark, before holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He jumps from a wideish draw eight, but he should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, ITA is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name, finishing fourth last time out over 1500M, two lengths behind the winner, but she came four wide into the home straight that day, before staying on well over the closing stages, suggesting the she should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. She faces a wide draw thirteen, but she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the frontrunners over the latter stages.

FROM THE BUSH jumped awkwardly and came three wide into the home stretch before ending up in fourth spot last time out over a mile, just under three lengths behind the winner. He on the other hand has a cozy draw two and is another who could enjoy this greater test of stamina.

SHAMEONUS is the stable companion to the top choice who put two and a half lengths between himself and the opposition when winning last time out over a mile. He struck the front approaching the home turn that day and the race was effectively over as a contest from that point. He had pulled a wideish gate nine, but he makes a solid back-up for the yard.

Race 8

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet, FERUS to chalk up his fourth career victory. He showed marked improvement to win his last start over seven furlongs by four lengths when going from jump to wire and could prove hard to reel in today. He faces a wide gate eleven, but on the plus side, he will get 4kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

SUPER HELPFUL tried to go from gun to tape before ending up in third spot last time out over seven furlongs, just a half length off the winner. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and from a useful draw four and with having 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

WHATSIN is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she was slow away before finishing strongly to end up sixth last time out over five furlongs, two lengths behind the winner when returning from a 21 week absence. She gets draw two, gets the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice and should be involved in the finish here.
