Race 5

WOLF DANCER has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1400M with a second-place finish next time out over 2100M, one length back from the winner. He struck the front at the top of the home straight that day and was only grabbed late. The gelding returns from a 26-week rest, but has finished second in his only barrier trial and from gate seven, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

IMMORTALITY was bumped at the start and never really got into the race when finishing eleventh last time out over 1200M, 6.3L behind the winner, but that was at a stronger centre. The gelding jumps from a wider gate nine, but he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

LUNAR EIGHT is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she won her penultimate outing over 1200M and then finished second next time out over the same c&d, beaten just a neck. She raced just behind the leaders that day and only just failed to reel in the winner. Although drawn wide in gate fourteen, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 6

The day’s best bet, MAJORELLE has won two of his last three starts, the latest over 1100M by 0.8L. He jumped awkwardly in that event, but recovered quickly to take up the lead, before holding on courageously to claim victory. The gelding has a handy draw four and will have 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Two 5-year-old mares could chase him home, with the slight preference going to MEMORIA who chased hard when finishing fifth last time out over 1200M, 3.3L back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. That was also at a stronger centre and whilst draw wide in gate nine, she could be the biggest danger to the top pick.

LADY WARDELL had her consistency rewarded with a 1.8L victory last time out over 1200M, when going from jump to wire. From her kinder draw five and with a 1.5kg claiming apprentice aboard, she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today to be involved in the finish.

Race 7

MENAZZI has finished third in his last four outings, the latest over 1600M, just over a length and a half off the winner, but he hung in down the home straight on that occasion and that was also at a stronger centre. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide draw fourteen, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

SIZZLING GAL is a 5-year-old mare taking on males, but she won over 1600M three runs back, finished second in her penultimate start over the same c&d and then fourth in her latest outing, again over the same c&d, 1.7L behind the winner. Here again, this was at a stronger centre, but she finished off her race well that day and although not drawn too much better in gate ten, she should be doing her best work late.

GENETIC FREAK made good late progress over the latter stages to get up in the shadow of the post to win his last start over 1300M by a short-head. He has pulled a wideish gate eight, but the gelding should be included in all bets.

Race 8

GURU CLASS is a 5-year-old mare taking on males, but she went from gun to tape to win her last start over 1100M, albeit by just a short-head. She did hang out over the final 150M and had to survive an objection lodged by the second-placed runner for that lateral movement. The mare faces a wide draw twelve, but she should use her early gate speed to move over without using up too much energy.

DESERT MIST is the stable companion of the top choice and overraced four wide without cover in the early and middle stages when ending up in fifth spot last time out over 1400M, 4.8L adrift of the victor and was immediately rested for 21 weeks. He returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and fourth in the latest. The gelding jumps from a wide draw ten, but he should be right up there when they hit the line and makes a solid back-up for the yard.

INTOXEL is drawn one inside the latter and is another 5-year-old mare in the race. She had finished second in her two starts prior to ending up in sixth place last time out over 1200M, 2.8L off the winner, but she stayed on well that day, suggesting that the extra ground on offer her will be to her liking.
