Race 5

There are four unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first-time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected.

Of the raced runners, GIGATON may well prove to be the best. He showed plenty of toe and was only grabbed in the shadow of the post when finishing third last time out over 1200M, beaten just a head. He will have to negotiate a wideish draw eight, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

HE IS THE KISS has consistent formlines to his name and tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in second place last time out over 1200M, 1.3L behind the winner. The gelding does face a wider draw ten, but he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

ENTERPRISE DANCER is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has cracked pole position and bled when making her debut over 1400M and was suspended for the mandatory three months. She moved stables during that time and returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing second in the latest. If fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, BROKEN HILL won over 1100M three runs back, finished fourteenth in his penultimate start over 1200M and then fifth in his latest outing over 1000M, just over three lengths back from the winner. He was returning from a 34-week spell that day and had to be held up at the 300M mark. The gelding will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and is sure to put his pole position to good use.

THE DRAMATIST followed up his penultimate run victory over 1400M with a disappointing twelfth place finish next time out over 1500M, just over twelve lengths adrift of the victor, but he was slow away that day and did not act in the heavy going, so that effort is best ignored. From his handy draw four, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

LEAVE ME SOME is an 8-year-old mare taking on males, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing second in her last two runs, the latest over 1000M, 0.8L back from the winner, but she hung in over the closing stages. She jumps from one gate outside the latter and should not be easily overlooked.

Race 7

NYALI SANDS is a 3-year-old filly taking on boys, but she had her consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over 1200M, albeit by just a head, this despite jumping awkwardly and racing green throughout. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning and she will be having her peak run after returning from a 31-week spell. The filly had pole position to aid her cause.

SATAY CHICKEN had solid form prior to finishing thirteenth last time out over 1400M, a distance behind the winner, but she was reported to have cardiac arrhythmia that day, so a line should be drawn through that effort. He has had two barrier trials since then to prove his well-being and from gate five, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

DON’TCHA THINK won his penultimate start over 1400M and then finished sixteenth next time out over 1500M, twelve and a half lengths adrift of the winner, but he was bumped at the start and did not act in the heavy going. In addition, he was found to be lame in his near-hind leg, so that effort should be ignored. The gelding will have to overcome a wide draw twelve, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

Race 8

OUTTA DE LADY put 2.8L between himself and the opposition to win his last start over 1000M. He went from gun to tape that day and notwithstanding hanging out down the home straight, he held on for a comfortable victory. He returns from a 23-week spell without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he gets a useful draw four and taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

NOT WRITTEN OFF is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she was hampered at the 100M mark and was found to be lame when ending up in eighth spot last time out over 1000M, 6.2L behind the winner and was immediately rested for 26 weeks. She returns here after having had two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing third in the latest. The filly has pulled gate six, and could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.

HIRAISHIN missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over 1000M when finishing fourth last time out over the same sprint trip, 2.8L behind the winner, but he did race three wide without cover that day, before battling all the way down to the wire. The gelding has a wideish gate eight, but on the plus side, he will have 3kgs taken off his back courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
