Race 5
SUBLIMINAL has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when second over seven furlongs, 2.3L behind the winner. She jumped awkwardly that day, but stayed on well over the closing stages and whilst she will have to negotiate a wide draw eleven, she should be doing her best work late.
COMMUNICATION produced a powerful finish to win her last start over 1300M by a length. She faces an even wider draw fourteen, but given her style of racing, she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.
JUSTELA followed up her penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over the same journey, just a half-length back from the winner. She battled all the way down to the wire in that event and from a kinder draw five, she should be included in all bets.
Race 6
IT’S A WONDER is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she won her penultimate start over 1300M and then finished sixth next time out over seven furlongs, nine and a half lengths behind the winner, but she raced three wide throughout that day and that was also in very heavy going. She jumps from a wide gate ten, but will have her peak run after returning from an 11-week rest and is made the best bet on the day’s card.
FIDDLERS GREEN had his consistency rewarded with a 2.3L victory last time out over seven furlongs, this despite coming three wide into the home straight. He struck the front at the 300M mark and went on to win easing up. The gelding will have to deal with a wide draw eleven, but gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause and could be the biggest threat to the top pick.
INVINCIBLE SPY won over a mile three runs back, finished a tad disappointing eleventh in his penultimate start also over a mile and then seventh in his latest outing over six furlongs, three and a half lengths behind the winner when returning from a 22-week break. The colt has a handy draw four and should be involved in the finish.
Race 7
The day’s value bet, POLITICAL DEBATE finished fifth last time out over nine furlongs, 1.7L off the winner, but it should be noted that his jockey dropped his reins in that contest, and this race was also at a stronger centre. He has his peak run after returning from a 21-week absence and has pulled a useful draw four.
FAWKNER PARK produced a powerful finish to put 3.3L between himself and the opposition to win his last start over ten furlongs and has had a barrier trial since then. The gelding will have to overcome a wide gate nineteen, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then endeavour to chase down the front runners over the closing stages of the race.
CLIFF HOUSE goes for his hat-trick after victories over a mile and nine furlongs, the latest by four and a half lengths, notwithstanding hanging in down the home stretch. He will have to deal with a wide gate fourteen, but the trio is very much on the cards.
Race 8
A 3-year-old and two 4-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but OUTBACK ANGEL is taken to lead the field home. She won over five furlongs three runs back, finished third in her penultimate start also over five furlongs and then fifth in her latest outing over the same sprint trip, 2.7L behind the winner, but she did lose a length at the start that day. She faces a wide draw nine, but she will be looking to chalk up her third career win here.
CRUIZINGDAFIELD has only had two runs to date, finishing third on debut over 1100M and then showing the expected improvement to win next time out over the same c&d by 0.8L and was immediately rested for 93 weeks and moved stables. She returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest to showcase her well-being and the fact that her connections have brought her back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that she still has something more to offer them. If fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here.
BEST INTENT has consistent formlines to her name, winning two of her last five outings. She reared at the start when finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, one length off the victor and returns here after a 24-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but she should turn in another honest performance today. The filly will need to overcome a wide draw twelve, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
