Race 5

TOUCH OF NAVY goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1200M and the latest over 1400M by one and a half length. He went from jump to wire that day and from his wide draw ten, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and prove difficult to reel in over the closing stages. As such, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

TWO UP jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner, but recovered quickly to take up the lead, only to be run out of it late to end up in fourth place last time out over 1600M, 1.7L behind the winner. The gelding gets a handy draw two and will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Although JACK DUGGAN is recorded as finishing fifth last time out, he was just 1.3L back from the winner, this after losing a length at the start and having to weave his way through traffic in the home straight. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, but he should be doing his best work late.

Race 6

There are two unraced runners in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether either of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for either, or both, should be respected. Of the raced runners, CERONS may well prove to be the best. He has only had two runs to date, finishing second on debut over 1000M and then sixth next time out over the 1200M, beaten nine lengths, when returning from a 21-week rest, but it should be noted that he overraced just behind the leaders that day and understandably had nothing to offer over the latter stages. In addition, he was reported to have lost a shoe in running that day, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding faces a wide gate eighteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. He also returns from a 25-week break, but has won both of his barrier trials to showcase his well-being.

DREAM SMART is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over 1000M, 0.8L back from the winner. She overraced in the middle stages on that occasion, but still managed to battle all the way down to the wire and from gate seven, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

SHERIFF’S STAR raced green throughout when finishing third first time out over 1200M, 2.7L back from the victor. The colt will have to negotiate a wide draw twelve, but he would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 7

The day’s best bet, POINT BASSE missed out on his hat-trick after victories over 1300M and 1400M when finishing eleventh last time out over 1200M, 4.8L behind the winner, when returning from a 37-week spell, but he was slow away on that occasion, losing two lengths and was reported as making an abnormal respiratory noise, so a line should be drawn through that effort. The form of that race has however been franked and notwithstanding a wide draw thirteen, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here to give the trainer/jockey combination of B F Cavanough and Braith Nock a quick double in the Jackpot.

SIXFOOTONE chased hard all the way down to the wire when finishing third last time out over 1200M, 1.8L back from the winner. He jumps from a wide gate nine, but he will be having his peak run after returning from a 23-week rest.

JINSOKU has won two of his last three starts and went from gun to tape to claim victory last time out over 1200M by a length. The gelding gets a kinder draw two and should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

SILENCIO PORFAVOR was bumped at the start, but struck the front at the 200M mark and then held off the chasing pack to win by 0.8L on debut over 1000M. He would have come on further with that run under his belt and whilst drawn wide in gate twelve, he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

I AM SUGOI won over 1300M three runs back, finished tenth in his penultimate start over 1200M and then ninth in his latest outing over 1100M, just over five and a half lengths behind the winner. He has his first run for his new trainer after returning from a 27-week spell, but has had two barrier trials, winning the latest. He faces a wide draw eleven, but if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

LULO ROSE is a 4-year-old filly taking on males and is the stable companion of the top choice. She had her consistency rewarded with her maiden last time out over 1200M by two and a half lengths, when returning from an 18-week rest. She went from jump to wire that day and from despite a wideish draw eight, she makes a solid backup for the yard.
