Race 5

AUNTY RENE came four wide into the home straight and struck the front at the 150M mark, before fighting off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win her last start over 1500M by a length. From her handy draw two, she may well be good enough to secure a quick double.

KILLER KERR raced three wide without cover and came four wide into the home stretch, but battled all the way down to the wire when finishing second in her latest outing over 1300M, 1.3L back from the victor. The mare has a useful draw four and will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

NO SECOND THOUGHTS has finished third in her last two outings and overraced throughout, but nevertheless stayed on well when ending up three lengths off the winner last time out over 1400M. She faces a wide draw nine, but on the plus side, she will have 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

Race 6

KERVETTE is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she won over 1300M three runs back, finished third in her penultimate start over the same trip and then second in her latest outing over 1400M, just a half-length behind the winner. She was, however, slow away that day, but delivered a powerful finish from some way back, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here would be to her liking and from gate six, she is made the best bet on the day’s card.

RUSH ATTACK has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1400M with a second-place finish next time out over 1600M, beaten just a head, but he was bumped at the start and race wide without cover, so he had his excuses. The gelding has a cosy draw two and gets the service of a 3kg claiming apprentice and could be the biggest threat to the top pick.

LET’S GO JOHNNY hung out approaching the home turn and came three wide into the home stretch, but finished best to get up in the shadow of the post to win his last start over 1600M, by a neck. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide draw eleven, but will have the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice and should be doing her best work late to be involved in the finish.

Race 7

ETNA ROSSO has won two of his last three starts and raced three wide throughout and came the widest of them all into the home straight, before kicking clear of the opposition to win his last start over 1900M by 1.8L going away. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 20-week rest and from gate seven, he could follow up to record his fourth career victory.

LION’S ROAR has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second over 1600M, 0.8L behind the winner, but it should be noted that he jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner on that occasion. Nevertheless, he chased hard over the latter stages and from a kinder draw three, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

MEDATSU is the stable companion of the top choice and goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1500M and the latest over 1600M by 1.8L. He was slow away in that event and came the widest of them all into the home stretch, but stayed on well over the closing stages. The extra distance should be to his liking and he will be having his peak run after returning from a 40-week spell. Despite a wide gate nine, he makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, HEZDARNHOTTOO won his penultimate start over 1100M and then tried to go from jump to wire when finishing sixth next time out over 1100M, eight lengths adrift of the victor and was immediately rested for 21 weeks, during which time he was gelded. He returns here after having had two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing second in the latest. The gelding will have to deal with a wide draw eleven, but he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

MISS COUVER is a 5-year-old mare taking on males, but she was bumped at the start and hampered at the 300M pole when finishing fifth last time out over 1100M, 2.2L behind the winner. She has pulled gate seven and with better luck in running, she should make her presence felt here.

AGENDA SETTER was returning from a 20-week rest and went from gun to tape after jumping awkwardly and bumping another runner to show solid improvement to claim his maiden victory by two and a half lengths last time out over 1000M. He takes on stronger here, but has a handy draw four and may well be up to the task at hand.
