Race 4

HERCULES MORSE had his consistency rewarded with his maiden win last time out over 1000M by just under a half-length. He finished well that day despite hanging in down the home straight and was immediately rested for 25 weeks. He returns here after not having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he gets a handy draw four and whilst taking on stronger here, he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and is made the value bet on the day’s card.

CUMBOOGLE tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in third place last time out over 900M, just a neck behind the winner. He was only run out of it late and from his wide draw nine, he is likely to employ the same frontrunning tactics again.

CALAMITY FOX overraced throughout when finishing fifth in his latest outing over 1400M, 2.8L back from the winner. He returns from a 24-week rest and has his first run for his new trainer, but has had one barrier trial to showcase his well-being. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, notwithstanding a wide draw eleven.

Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. ASSIDUITY showed solid improvement to finish fifth last time out over 1400M, 3.7L off the winner and the form of that race has been franked. If able to confirm that effort and with 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he could be the one that they all have to beat, jumping from draw five.

A 4-year-old and a 3-year-old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to CHARLOTTING who won over 1600M three runs back, finished fourth in her penultimate start over the same journey and then eighth in her latest outing over also over 1600M, 4.7L behind the winner, but she was hampered at the start that day. She stayed on well over the closing stages in that event and whilst drawn wide in gate ten, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

CHOICE WITNESS followed up her penultimate run victory over 1450M with a fifth-place finish next time out over 1300M, just under two and a half lengths back from the winner, but she overraced in the early and middle stages on that occasion. The filly has blinkers re-fitted for today’s run and will have to negotiate a wide draw seventeen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 6

This looks to be another tricky race. The tentative top pick goes to TOUCH OF NAVY who struck the front at the 200M mark and then held off the chasing pack to win his last start over 1200M by a head. The gelding has a wide draw ten, but he should be doing his best work late.

MUSICAL AFFAIR is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she won her penultimate start over 1200M and then tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in tenth spot last time out over 1300M, twelve and a half lengths adrift of the victor, but that was in heavy going, so a line should be drawn through that effort. The filly gets a kinder draw three and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

INDIFFERENCE finished fourteen in his latest outing over 1400M, 12.6L behind the winner, but he did not act in the heavy going that day, so that effort is best ignored. He has his peak run after returning from an 18-week break and whilst facing a wide draw nine, he will have blinkers re-fitted, which may well do the trick.

Race 7

The day’s best bet, SIR FREDDIE showed plenty of toe and was only reeled in late when finishing third last time out over 1000M, just under one and a half lengths back from the winner. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 20-week spell and although drawn wide in gate nine, he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

KEITANY is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she won her penultimate start over 1000M and then battled all the way down to the wire when ended up in fifth place last time out over 900M, 3.3L behind the victor. She has pulled a useful gate four and returns from a 17-week rest, but has had the benefit of a barrier trial. The filly should appreciate the extra ground on offer here and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

SUNDAY BELL went from gun to tape when just holding on to win his last start over 900M by a short-head. The gelding has a wideish gate eight, but on the plus side, he will have 1,5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and should be involved in the finish.
