Race 4

Two 4-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s best bet, KIMBERLEY MOON is taken to lead the field home. She showed plenty of toe and was only run out of it late when finishing second on debut over 1100M, just 0.8L behind the winner. She would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, she could be the one that they all have to beat. The filly gets cheekpieces fitted for the first time and whilst drawn wide in gate thirteen, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

LUNAIRE finished second and then third in her latest outing over 1100M, three lengths back from the winner in her first two runs for her new trainer and returning from a 28-week break. She has her peak run here and from draw seven, she could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.

MAD HARRY has cracked pole position and has finished third in his last two starts, the latest over 1600M, 2.2L off the victor. He came the widest of them all into the home straight that day, but finished strongly from some way back, so that effort was encouraging. The gelding returns from a 23-week rest, but has finished third in his only barrier trial and should be involved in the finish.

Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. Although RHYTHM IS A DANCER is recorded as finishing eleventh in his last start over 1400M, he was just under three and a half lengths behind the winner, this after racing just behind the leaders and not quite going on with his effort and was immediately rested for 25 weeks. He returns here after having three barrier trials, winning the latest and the drop in trip should be to his liking. From his handy draw two, he looks to be the one to side with here.

A 7-year-old and a 5-year-old mare could chase him home, with the slight preference going to DEEP ROUGE who showed solid improvement to win her last start over 1200M by 2.3L, despite coming the widest of them all into the home straight. She struck the front at the 100M mark to win going away and from gate seven, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

SISTERS PICK missed out on her hat-trick after victories over 1200M and 1100M when finishing second last time out back over 1200M, just a head behind the winner. She showed plenty of toe that day, only to be nabbed in the shadow of the post and jumping from a useful draw four, she should be included in all bets.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, KEITANY is a 5-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she won over 1000M three runs back, finished tenth in her penultimate start over the same c&d and then seventh in her latest outing over 1300M, 3.2L behind the winner. She did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, so a line can be drawn through that effort. The mare faces a wide draw twelve, but she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

GREAT SIEGE tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in fifth place last time out over 1200M, 1.8L off the winner and is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today to put her pole position to good use.

ROSES IMMINENTE is a 3-year-old filly who won by a half length first time out over 1100M, notwithstanding having to be held up at the 400M pole and weave her way through traffic down the home straight. She would have come on further with that run under her belt and with Jaden Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd in the irons, she could complete the trifecta.

Race 7

A 5-year-old and a 6-year-old mare could dominate the finish to this contest, but JET EMPRESS may just have the edge. She chased hard when finishing fourth in her last start over 950M, three lengths behind the winner and should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. She will have to negotiate a wideish gate eight, but on the plus side, she will have 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

TAKANAKUY has won two of her last three starts, the latest over 1000M by one and a half lengths, this after racing wide throughout. She has her first run after a 32-week break, but has finished second in her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being. The mare will have to deal with a wide gate ten, but she should be doing her best work late.

WHISTLING STRAITS goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1000M and the latest over 1100M, albeit by just a head, but it should be noted that he was hampered at the start. He recovered quickly to take up the lead and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The form of that race has stood up well with four runners out of that contest subsequently winning and although drawn one outside the latter, he should not be easily overlooked.
