Race 4

ROCKIN’ MILLIE is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she had finished second in her first three starts before winning her maiden race last time out over five furlongs by 1.8L. She showed plenty of toe that day and despite being bumped at the start and returning from a 28-week break, she held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. The filly gets a handy draw two and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

WHO EVER THOUGHT won his penultimate start over five furlongs and then finished third next time out over 900M, 2.2L behind the winner, when having his first run for his new trainer and returning from an 18-week rest. He made good late progress in that event and from gate five, he could be the biggest threat to the top pick.

GO ISLA GO is a 3-year-old filly who also won her penultimate outing, but in her case over six furlongs and then ended up in second place next time out over the same sprint trip, one and a half lengths back from the winner and has won a subsequent barrier trial. She tried to go from jump to wire that day and from her wide draw nine, she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

Race 5

The day’s value bet, OCTOBER REVOLUTION won over five furlongs three runs back, finished sixth in his penultimate start over six furlongs and then second in his latest outing, back over five furlongs, just a head behind the winner. He struck the front at the 100M mark, only to be grabbed in the shadow of the post. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate ten, but he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

MONTE OUTLANDER followed up his penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a fifth-place finish next time out over the same journey, just over one and a half lengths back from the winner, but he was crowded at the start and had to be held up between the 350M and 200M mark, so he had his excuses. That was also at a stronger centre. The gelding returns from an 18-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he has pulled draw five and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

COOL SHALAA is a 3yr filly taking on males, but she won her penultimate start over five furlongs and then tried to go from gun to tape when ending up in third spot next time out over the same trip, just a length off the winner. She is drawn one outside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 6

BORROWED LUCK is a 4-year-old filly taking on boys, but she won her penultimate run over seven furlongs, followed that up with a disappointing eighth place finish next time out over a mile, 6.3L adrift of the victor, bur she did come five wide into the home straight and was bumped on several occasions from the 300M pole. She was immediately rested for 22 weeks and returned here after winning both of her barrier trials. The filly will have to negotiate a wide gate ten, but on the plus side she will have 4kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

PEE DEE raced up with the leaders, but squeezed the second-place horse in the home stretch, before going on to win his last start over five furlongs by 1.3L. The resultant objection for his actions was however overruled and the original result was allowed to stand. He has a useful draw two and should be right up there when they hit the line,

THE YOUNG YEARS is another 4-year-old filly in the race. She had her consistency rewarded with her maiden victory last time out over six furlongs, by 2.3L, when returning from a 15-week rest. She takes on stronger here, but jumps from gate five and may well be up to the task at hand.

Race 7

YORIKIRI came four wide into the home straight but battled all the way down to the wire when finishing second last time out over a mile, 2.3L back from the victor. The gelding has a cosy gate two and could give jockey Aaron Bullock his second winner in the day’s Jackpot, should the top choice win the second leg.

OPEN SKY has won two of his last four starts, including his penultimate run victory over a mile and then finished sixth over the same trip last time out, 7.2L adrift of the winner, but it should be noted that he was reported to have not acted on the heavy going that day, so a line should be drawn through that effort. He faces a wide draw sixteen, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

FLYING STEP is a 5-year-old mare taking on males, but she goes for her hat-trick after two victories over a mile, the latest by 1.3L, notwithstanding brushing the rail in running. She has pulled a handy draw three and will have the services of a 4kg claiming apprentice.
