Race 5

WOLVES is a 5-year-old mare taking on the boys but has a handy draw two. She struck the front at the 100M mark and looked like a winner, only to be grabbed late to finish second last time out over six furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner. She will be looking for her second career victory here and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

ABUSE OF POWER has cracked pole position and has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second over 1300M, just a head behind the winner, but he came three wide into the home straight that day, before making good late progress over the closing stages. The gelding gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd and will be looking to go one better here.

BUSH TELEGRAPH is a 3-year-old filly who won by a half-length over this c&d on debut and would have come on further with that run under her belt. She came three wide into the home stretch in that event but then battled all the way down to the wire. From gate five, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. PARABELLUM is a 5-year-old mare taking on males, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing fifth last time out over 1900M, just under three lengths back from the winner, despite being slow away and overracing in the middle stages. She also did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 200M mark before finishing well. The mare has pulled draw six and looks to be the one to side with here.

BY NINE followed up his penultimate run victory over a mile with a fifth-place finish next time out over ten furlongs, 2.2L back from the winner. He stayed on well that day, suggesting that he should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. Jumping from draw four, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

SO SNEEKY jumped awkwardly but kicked clear of the opposition at the top of the home straight, before holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win by a length last time out over 2100Thethe gelding is drawn one inside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

A 3-year-old and a 4-year-old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but ALLAPERCANTO is taken to lead the field home. She has only had four runs to date, winning over seven furlongs three runs back, finished third in her penultimate start over nine furlongs and then second in her latest outing over1500M, 0.7L behind the winner, but it should be noted that she jumped awkwardly in that contest, bumping another runner and was then hampered at the 200M pole, so she can be considered an unlucky loser. She has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial and whilst facing a wide draw ten, she will have Zac Lloyd in the saddle to aid her cause.

NEVER SORRY has won two of her last three starts and raced just behind the front runners before hitting the front at the 200M mark to win her last outing over six furlongs by a length. She has draw six and will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

BYRON tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in tenth spot last time out over 1300M, five lengths adrift of the victor, but the form of that race has been franked. From his wideish draw eight, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, FIDDLERS GREEN was returning from a 21-week break and was bumped at the start and came three wide into the home straight when finishing second last time out over seven furlongs, two lengths off the winner. He has pulled gate five and could chalk up his second career win here.

Two 3-year-old fillies could chase him home, with the slight preference going to CONCELLO who came the widest of them all into the home straight but finished off her race well from some way back to end up in fifth place last time out over 1300M, just over two lengths behind the winner. She gets a useful draw two and should be considered a big runner in this line-up.

LOVE CHILD is the stable companion of the latter who won first time out over 1300M and then tried to go from gun to tape when finishing second next time out over 1500M, beaten a short-head in the shadow of the post. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The filly jumps from gate six and could prove hard to reel in over the latter stages and makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.
