Race 5

VEGAS DREAM won over 1300M three runs back, finished third in his penultimate start over the same trip and then second in his latest outing over 1175M, beaten just a short-head, but he jumped awkwardly that day before racing just behind the speed, only to be grabbed in the shadow of the post. The gelding has drawn wide in gate nine, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas. A 4-year-old and a 3-year-old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to.

MISSILE MAIDEN who has cracked pole position and raced wide without cover, before finishing strongly to win her last start over 1175M, albeit by just a neck. That was a well-timed victory, and she should be doing her best work late here.

GRIFFINSTOWN GIRL tried to go from jump to wire when showing solid improvement to finish second in her latest outing over 1200M, just a head back from the victor and from one gate outside the latter and with 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, JOEY D’OR won over 1000M three runs back, finished second in his penultimate start over 1200M and then a disappointing eleventh in his latest outing over 1100M, 8.7L behind the winner, but it should be noted that she did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day and was struck by another jockey’s crop, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding gets gate six and the services of Jaden Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd.

STUPENDO has finished second in his last three runs since joining his new trainer, the latest over 1200M, beaten just a short-head, this after losing a length at the start. The gelding hit the line hard in that event and notwithstanding a wide draw nine, he will be looking to go one better here.

MISS THATCHER is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she jumped awkwardly bumping another runner before coming three wide into the home straight and making good late progress over the closing stages to end up in fifth place last time out over 1400M, just under a length and a half back from the winner. The filly returns from a 38-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust and has her first run for her new trainer, but she gets a kinder draw four and will have 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

Race 7

AUNTY GINNY has only had two runs to date, winning on debut over 1000M and then finishing second next time out over the same sprint trip, just a half-length behind the winner, when returning from a 21-week break. She sat just behind the leader that day, before kicking clear of the opposition at the entrance to the home straight, only to be nabbed late. The filly has a handy draw three and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

JOYNER has also only had two runs to date, finishing fifth first time out over 1000M and then showing the expected improvement to win by going from gun to tape next time out over 1200M, one and a half lengths clear of the runner-up. She is drawn one inside the top choice and could be her biggest threat.

WHITE TIGHTS has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1300M with a second-place finish next time out over 1460M, 2.3L back from the winner. The filly raced just behind the speed on that occasion, only to be run out of it late. She on the other hand will have to deal with a wide draw eleven, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy to be involved in the finish.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. MAJORIAN won his maiden race in his penultimate outing over 1600M and then finished fifth next time out when stepping up to 2000M, three and a half lengths behind the winner. He does return from a 19-week break, but has had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the latest and from a cosy draw four, he could be the one to side with here, dropping back to what may be a more suitable distance.

PACKER made good late progress to finish fourth last time out over 1400M, ending up just over a length back from the winner and on that effort, he should appreciate the extra ground on offer today. The gelding has pulled draw six and could give jockey Jayden Lloyd his second winner in the day’s Jackpot.

STEELY GIRL is a 3-year-old filly taking on males and did not get the clearest of runs in the home stretch when finishing in sixth spot last time out over 1500M, 3.7L behind the winner, but the form of that race has been franked and from a wideish draw eight, she should be included in all bets.
