Race 7

NAILS MURPHY put his disappointing penultimate start over 1400M behind him when finishing fourth next time out over 1500M, 1.8L back from the winner, but he made good late progress that day suggesting that he should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. He has cracked pole position and is made the value bet on the day’s card.

SPACE AGE is the stable companion of the top choice and went from jump to wire to win his last start over 1600M by 2.8L and the form of that race has been franked. He on the other hand has a wide draw nine, but he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and could prove difficult to reel in over the closing stages. In addition, he will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and makes a solid backup for the yard.

THE LITTLE PUMPER jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner, but recovered quickly to take up the lead and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win his last start over 1550M by 1.3L. The gelding is drawn even wider in gate eleven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 8

TESTATOR SILENS finished second in his last two starts, the latest over 1500M, beaten just a short-head. His jockey put up 0.5kg overweight that day, so he can be considered an unlucky loser. The gelding has a wideish draw eight, but he will be hoping to go one better here.

He renews his rivalry with WAR ETERNAL who followed up his penultimate run victory over 1400M with a third-place finish next time out in the race over 1500M mentioned above, just under a length back from the winner. He finished powerfully from some way back that day and from his handy draw three, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today, but as he meets the former on the same weight terms today, it may be difficult for him to reverse that result.

RUSSIAN RONI sat just behind the leaders and chased hard to finish third last time out over 1200M, just a neck behind the winner. He was returning from a 12-week rest that day and from draw five and with 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice, he should be included in all bets.

Race 9

BEAR ON THE LOOSE is a four-time winner from six starts and completed his hat-trick when winning last time out over 1800M by 0.8L, when having his first start in Australia after arriving from the UK and returning from a lengthy 41-week spell and could be just about anything. He struck the front at the 250M mark that day and then fought off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. The gelding faces a wide draw fourteen, but he is, nevertheless, taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

AMBERITE has won three of his last five outings, the latest over 1800M by a head. He went from gun to tape that day to record a courageous victory. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide draw thirteen, but he could prove hard to collar in over the latter stages.

ARAMCO won over 2000M in his penultimate start and then finished fifth next time out over 1500M. just a length off the winner, when having his first run for his new trainer and returning from a 17-week rest, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 200M mark, before finishing off his race well. The gelding faces a wide gate eleven, but nevertheless, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 10

This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. THE ESCAPE won his penultimate outing over 1000M and then jumped awkwardly bumping another runner, but kicked clear at the top of the home straight, only to be grabbed late to end up in fifth spot last time out over 1100M, just under two lengths adrift of the victor. The gelding has a useful gate four and seems likely to turn in another solid performance today.

PLUNDERING had nothing go his way last time out when finishing thirteenth over 1200M, eight and a half lengths behind the winner. He was crowded at the 1000M mark, hampered at the 800M pole and became unbalanced, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding returns from an 18-week break, but has had the benefit of a barrier trial and whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, he should not be easily overlooked.

GITALONG won over 1000M three runs back, finished fifth in his penultimate start over 1100M and then second in his latest outing back over 1000M, two lengths behind the winner, when returning from a 25-week break. He made good late progress over the latter stages that day and from his kinder draw three, he could complete the trifecta.
