Race 7

KING OF THE CASTLE has won two of his last three starts, the latest over a mile by a half-length. He raced just behind the leaders that day and hit the front at the 100M mark before holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. From his handy draw four, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

SUPER STRIKE has consistent formlines to his name and although recorded as finishing seventh last time out over a mile, he was just 1.8L behind the winner. He did race three wide without cover that day, but still managed to stay on well over the latter stages. The gelding will have to negotiate a wideish draw eight, but he will be having his peak run after returning from a 13-week rest.

BOLD MAC has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second over ten furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner. He battled all the way down to the wire on that occasion and from his wide gate thirteen, he should be doing his best work late.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. LONGVILLERS finished a disappointing twentieth last time out over a mile, just under seven and a half lengths adrift of the victor and was immediately rested for 28 weeks. He returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and second in the latest. The gelding will have to overcome a wide draw 14 but he will be hoping to bounce back to his better form today.

WAIHAHA FALLS finished seventh last time out over 1300M, just over four lengths back from the winner and has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. The form of that race has also been franked and he did stay on well over the latter stages, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. His wide draw sixteen is a concern, but with luck in running, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

COTEHELE is the stable companion to the top choice and had his consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over 1500M, albeit by just a head and he has won a subsequent barrier trial. He had to be held up in the home straight in that event, only seeing daylight at the 150M mark and is drawn the widest of them all in gate eighteen, but he should start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race and makes a solid back-up for the yard.

Race 9

The day’s best bet, IOWNA MERC goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1100M and the latest over six furlongs by a short-head, when returning from a 22-week spell. He has pulled draw five and will get 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and the trio is very much on the cards.

INSURRECTION was returning from a 10-week rest when showing solid improvement to finish second last time out over five furlongs, just a length off the winner. He kicked clear of the opposition at the entrance of the home straight and was only run out of it very late. The gelding will have to deal with a wide gate 16, but will get 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd.

RUTHIN is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M in the USA with a disappointing twenty-sixth place finish next time out over five furlongs at Royal Ascot, 12.8L back from the winner. She now has her first outing in Australia but has had the benefit of three barrier trails, finishing four in the latest. From her useful draw four, she could make a winning debut in her new home.

Race 10

STONECOAT has his hat-trick run after two wins over a mile, the latest by a neck, when going from jump to wire. He returns from a 14-week break, but has had the two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest. From draw seven, he is likely to adopt the same tactics today and could prove difficult to reel in over the latter stages.

GREEN SHADOWS has cracked pole position and is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over 1300M, 2.8L back from the winner, when returning from an 18-week spell. It should be noted that he lost a length at the start that day and overraced in the early stages, before having to be held up in the home straight, so he had his excuses.

BATTLETON was slow away, but made good late progress when finishing third last time out over seven furlongs, just a neck behind the winner. He jumps from gate five and should be included in all bets.
