Race 6

KNIGHT’S CHOICE is seldom too far off the action, finishing second last time out over 2200M (G2), 3.8L back from the winner, but he was forced to race wide throughout that day. Nevertheless, he stayed on well over the closing stages, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here would be to his liking. The gelding gets a handy draw two and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

ALMAIRAC on the other hand faces a wide draw eleven, but he has won three of his last four starts, the latest over 2200M by 3.8L, despite racing three wide without cover. He struck the front at the top of the home straight that day and then went on to record a comfortable victory. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning.

SERPENTINE won over 2000M three runs back, finished fourth in his penultimate start when stepping up to 3200M and then thirteenth in his latest outing back over 200M, 5.7L behind the winner, but he raced wide throughout in that event. The form of that race has been franked and although the gelding will have to overcome a wider gate twelve, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 7

The day’s best bet, IKNOWASTAR has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1600M with a third-place finish next time out over the same journey, just under a length back from the winner, when trying to go from jump to wire. He faces a wide gate eleven, but he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and could prove hard to reel in over the latter stages.

WATEGOS is the stable companion of the top choice and has cracked pole position. He also has consistent formlines to his credit and was hampered at the 300M mark before having to be held up at the 200M pole before ending up in third place last time out over 1300M, 2.3L behind the winner. With better luck in running, he could be the biggest danger to the top pick and make a solid backup for the yard.

COTTEE is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished fourth in her last two starts, the latest over 1600M, 1.8L back from the victor, but she did hang in approaching the home turn which would have done her cause no good at all. The filly has a wideish draw eight, but she should still be involved in the finish.

Race 8

C’EST MAGIQUE was having her first run for the powerful Chris Waller yard when winning her last start over 1300M (G2) by a length and a half. She raced just behind the leader from a wide draw on that occasion before kicking clear of the field to win going away. She will have to deal with a wide draw nine, but she could be the one to side with here.

BELLA NIPOTINA gets an even wider gate seventeen, but she is a two-time Group 1 winner who has finished second in her last two outings, the latest over 1400M (G1), just a head behind the winner. She lost a shoe in that event and should keep the top choice honest.

SEMANA is the stable mate of the latter who raced wide throughout from a poor draw when finishing up in tenth spot last time out over 1400M (G1), 5.8L adrift of the victor. She has pulled a kinder draw six and makes a useful backup for the yard.

Race 9

ALL THAT PIZZAZZ’S last three runs have yielded a second, third and the latest a fourth-place finish over 1200M, 3.8L behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He chased hard that day and from his wide gate fifteen, he should be doing his best work late.

IOWNA MERC raced three wide throughout, but was still able to make good late progress to end up in second place last time out over 1100M, 0.8L back from the winner. The gelding has gate five and will be having his peak run after returning from a 23-week break.

SHALAA’S MOMENT is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she missed out on her quartet of victories after a win over 800M and two wins over 1000M when finishing fourth last time out over the same sprint trip, just over two lengths behind the winner. She was bumped at the start that day and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 100M mark, before finishing off her race well. The filly will have to deal with a wide gate eighteen, but she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.
