Race 7

DEVIL’S THROAT is seldom far off the action and was hampered at the start when finishing second last time out over six furlongs, just a length behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He will have to negotiate gate ten out of eleven, but nevertheless he should turn in another honest performance here and as such, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card. AMATHUBA is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but her last three runs over today’s sprint distance have yielded a win, second and the latest a third-place finish, just over a half-length back from the winner. She was returning from a 17 week rest that day, raced three wide without cover and came five wide into the home straight, before staying on well over the closing stages. From her kinder draw five, she should give the males a good run for their money. RAINBOW CONNECTION followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a third-place finish next time out over six furlongs, just a head behind the winner. The gelding came three wide into the home stretch but made good late progress over the latter stages. He is drawn one inside the latter and will be having his peak run since returning from an 18-week break.

Race 8

COTEHELE won his penultimate run over six furlongs and then ended up in sixth place next time out over 1300M, 2.2L off the winner, but he came three wide into the home straight before staying on well. He faces a wide gate nine, but he should be doing his best work late. SUR LA MER is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name, battling all the way down to the wire when finishing third last time out over a mile, 1.3L behind the winner. She is drawn one inside the top choice and seems likely to turn in another honest performance today. CAVALIER CHARLES has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when second over 1300M, 0.8L adrift of the victor, but he raced three wide without cover in that contest and was then forced an even wider four wide in the home straight, so that effort was encouraging. He jumps from gate five and should be included in all bets.

Race 9

The day’s best bet, I AM ME is a 4yr old filly taking on boys and showed solid improvement to win her last start over 1100M, putting two lengths between herself and the opposition, when returning from a 20 week absence. She had to be held up at the 400M mark, but kicked clear of the field when seeing daylight at the 200M pole to win going away. She gets gate seven and returns from a 20 week spell, but has finished second in her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being. KEY LARGO is drawn one inside the top pick and won his penultimate start over five furlongs and then finished second in his next outing over the same trip, just a half length behind the winner, despite jumping awkwardly. He has his peak run since returning from a 33 week spell and could emerge as the biggest threat to the former. MUNITIONS has posted two solid last runs and chased hard when finishing second last time out over six furlongs, just under a half length back from the winner. The gelding was friendless in the betting markets that day and although drawn wide in gate ten, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much gas.

Race 10

ESTADIO MESTALLA has only had the two runs to date, winning on debut over a mile in the UK and then followed that up with a two and a half length victory first time out in Australia over this c&d and could be just about anything. He had to be held up at the top of the home straight on that occasion, but hit the front at the 150M mark and was geared down approaching the finishing post. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate sixteen, but he may well be ahead of the handicapper at this stage of his career. AFRICAN DAISY is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she showed marked improvement to win her last outing over seven furlongs by 0.8L, when returning from a 20 week rest. She came three wide approaching the home turn, but burst clear of the field at the 250M mark and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. She is not drawn much better in gate thirteen, but a repeat of that last effort would see her involved in the finish. TENDERIZE on the other hand has cracked pole position and won his penultimate run over 1500M and then raced three wide without cover to finish third in his next start over the same c&d, just under a half length off the winner. He should be considered a big runner here.
