Race 7

ORCHESTRAL has won four on the trot in New Zealand, including a Group 1 event last time out over twelve furlongs when putting 3.8L between herself and the opposition. She gets a handy draw two and the services of champion jockey James McDonald, who has won on her before.

ZARDOZI in turn has won three of her last five starts, the latest over 1500M (G2) by two lengths, this despite being slow away and her jockey putting up 0.5kgs overweight. She finished well in that event and has won over more ground than today’s journey, so the step up in trip should not be an issue. She gets gate seven and will be having her peak run after returning from a 16-week rest.

AUTUMN ANGEL has won two of her last three outings, the latest over a mile (G2) contest by a head. She struck the front at the 250M mark and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the line. The filly has her peak run after returning from an 18-week break and should be included in all bets.

Race 8

POST IMPRESSIONIST won his first start in Australia over twelve furlongs (G3) by three and a half lengths after arriving from the UK 28 weeks ago. He was bumped at the start and found himself at the back of the field and being forced to come four wide into the home straight, but then mowed down the field to win easing up. The gelding has a useful draw three and could complete a quick double.

BUCKAROO was slow away and did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 350M mark before finishing strongly, ending up in third spot last time out over ten furlongs (G1), just under a length and a half behind the winner. He has pulled draw seven and should be right up there when they hit the line.

ASHRUN has cracked pole position and kicked clear of the field at the 200M pole to win his last start in a Listed event over 2500M by 1.8L. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 15-week rest and will be looking for his sixth career victory.

Race 9

ANOTHER WIL is looking to make it five wins in a row after his latest four-and-a-half length victory over a mile. He raced just behind the leaders that day and cruised into the lead at the top of the home straight to register a comfortable win. He has won a subsequent barrier trial and from his cosy draw four, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

AMOR VICTORIOUS missed out on his hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and a mile, when finishing seventh over 1500M (G2), 4.3L adrift of the winner, but he overraced in the early and middle stages and bumped another runner at the 250M mark. Not surprisingly, he had little to offer over the closing stages. The gelding jumps from a wideish gate eight but could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

COIN TOSS went from jump to wire when winning a Listed event last time out over seven furlongs by two lengths. His draw three will do him no harm and he could prove difficult to reel in over the latter stages.

Race 10

The day’s value bet, IKNOWASTAR had won his last four runs prior to finishing sixteenth last time out over a mile, 9.8L adrift of the winner, but he jumped awkwardly before quickly recovering to pick up the lead but did not go on with his effort. The gelding returns with abrasions on his gums after that event, so that effort is best ignored. He was immediately rested for 20 weeks and returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest. From gate five, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

RAZORS won over seven furlongs three runs back, finished second in his penultimate start again over seven furlongs and then third in his latest outing over the same journey, 2.8L behind the winner, when returning from a 23-week break. He did jump awkwardly in that contest, bumping another runner and came three wide into the home stretch, before staying on well over the latter stages. The gelding will have to negotiate a wideish gate eight, but he should turn in another honest performance today.

GRINGOTTS followed up his penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a third-place finish next time out over the same trip, just under a length and a half lengths back from the winner, but he did come three wide into the home straight. He has his first run for his new trainer and returns from a 20-week spell, but has had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the first and winning the latest. Whilst having to deal with a wide draw fourteen, if he has fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.
