Race 5

There are three unraced runners in this, the opening leg of the day’s Jackpot, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, EMBASSY may well prove to be the best. He has finished second in three of his last four starts, the latest over 1200M, 0.8L behind the winner, but he was bumped at the start. He recovered quickly to sit second, only to be run out of it late. The colt has a handy draw three, and will be looking to go one better today and is made the best bet on the card. He gets cheek pieces re-fitted if these have the desired effect, he could prove hard to topple.

EXCELINDEED has only had two runs to date, finishing second on debut over 1100M and then third next time out over 1200M, just a half-length back from the victor. He is drawn one outside the top pick and could emerge as his biggest danger. He does return from a 28-week break, but has won both of his barrier trials to showcase his well-being.

DIDDLE DUMPLING is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys and was returning from a 15-week rest when making good late progress to end up in second place last time out over 1150M, 1.3L off the winner. She faces a wide draw nine, but she should be doing her best work late to be involved in the finish.

Race 6

FIRE STAR was returning from a 25-week break and jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner, but recovered to take up the lead before being reeled in late to finish second last time out over 1000M, one and a half lengths behind the winner. He gets a useful gate three and could give trainer Peter Snowden a quick double in the day’s Jackpot.

SILENCIO PORFAVOR is two for two after a pair of victories over 1000M, the latest when putting three lengths between himself and the opposition. The colt jumps from gate five and the hat-trick is very much on the cards.

CROSS YOUR HEART is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she missed out on her hat-trick after wins over 1100M and 1200M when finishing second last time out over 1100M, beaten just a head, this after coming five wide into the home straight. She has her first run for her new trainer and returns from a 20-week rest, but has had the benefit of three barrier trials. If fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here, despite a wide draw ten. On the plus side, however, she will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

Race 7

TERRA MATER won over 1400M three runs back, finished ninth in her penultimate start, again over 1400M and then second in her latest outing over 1200M, just a half-length behind the winner, when returning from an 18-week rest. She chased hard that day and from her cosy draw two, she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

SHEZANALISTER also won three runs back, but in her case over 1100M, finished fourth in her penultimate start over the same sprint trip and then third in her latest outing over 1200M, just a half behind the winner, but she had to be switched for a clear run at the 320M mark, so was a tad unlucky. The mare will have to negotiate a wide draw nine, but will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

HELLAVADANCER had her consistency rewarded with a 0.8L victory last time out over 1400M. She struck the front at the 100M mark and kept going well to record her sixth career victory. The mare faces a wide draw eleven, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, TENDER STREAK is a 4-year-old filly taking on boys. She was returning from a 19-week spell and did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 300M mark before finishing well, ending up in second spot last time out over 1100M, just a head behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She has a handy draw four and will have 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

STAR LEGACY has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1600M with a fifth-place finish next time out over 1600M, 2.7L back from the winner. He delivered a powerful finish from some way back that day and although drawn wide in gate nine, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

DRAMA DODGER is another 4-year-old filly in the race. She has posted two solid last runs, finishing well in the latest to end up in fourth place over 1280M, 1.3L behind the winner. She will appreciate the extra ground on offer here and from gate seven, she should be included in all bets.
