Race 5
OVEREXTEND is seldom far off the action and although recorded as finishing seventh last time out over six furlongs, he was just two lengths back from the winner, but it should be noted that he jumped awkwardly and raced three wide through that day. That was also at a stronger center and whilst drawn the widest of them all in gate twelve, on the plus side, he will get 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
A 4yr old filly and a 5yr old mare could chase him home, with the slight preference going to BILLABONG ISLE who has finished second in her last two starts, the latest over five furlongs when beaten a short-head. She showed plenty of toe that day and was only grabbed in the shadow of the post. She jumps from gate seven and will be having her peak run after returning from a 45-week spell. She will also have 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.
OWHATA CRUMPET has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1300M with a second-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, one length back from the winner. She returns here after a 25-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but from her handy draw four, she should be included in all bets.
Race 6
DIN won over five furlongs three runs back, finished third in her penultimate start over 1100M and then second in her latest outing over the same sprint trip, just a half-length behind the winner, but she raced four wide throughout that day, before staying on well over the closing stages. She gets a useful draw four and on that last effort, she should appreciate the extra ground on offer today and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.
ALLANDE has finished second in her last two outings, the latest over six furlongs, beaten just a head, after finishing her race off strongly and is another who will enjoy the extra distance. She is drawn one inside the top choice and will get the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice.
FIRST SECRET raced three wide approaching the home turn, but made good late progress to end up in fourth place last time out over six furlongs, 1.2L back from the winner. She will have to deal with a wide draw eleven, but she should be doing her best work late.
Race 7
DALAVIN showed marked improvement when finishing second in his latest outing over five furlongs, just a head off the victor. He raced just behind the leaders on that occasion and then just failed to run them down over the closing stages. The gelding has a useful gate two and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and could provide trainer Brett Robb with a quick double in the day’s Jackpot.
DUBBO WANDERER put his disappointing penultimate run behind him when winning his next start over five furlongs, albeit by just a short-head. He lost two lengths at the start in that event and was forced to come the widest of them all into the home straight, but produced a powerful finish over the latter stages. He will have to negotiate a wide draw 10, but will have 1,5kgs removed from his back for the services of his claiming apprentice.
TORO TORO was returning from a 26-week absence when ending up in ninth spot last time out over five furlongs, just under four lengths behind the winner, but the gelding did come the widest into the home stretch and was hampered at the 200M mark, so he had his excuses. He has pulled a kinder draw three and should not be easily overlooked.
Race 8
The day’s value bet, FREYCINET won his maiden race last time out over five furlongs by a head at the fourth time of asking. He still raced green that day and hung out throughout, so that effort was encouraging. He was having his first run for his new trainer that day and whilst taking on stronger here, he has a cosy draw three and may well be up to the task at hand.
KEIKOKU had to be held up on the home turn when finishing fourth last time out over five furlongs, 1.3L behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, notwithstanding a wideish draw eight. The gelding will also have cheekpieces fitted for the first time to aid his cause.
AIMPOINT had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory by a head last time out over six furlongs, when having his first run for his new stable. He has pulled draw four and he should be right up there when they hit the line.
