CONTRA FISCUM produced an encouraging debut effort over this distance at the Vaal. She jumped inwards leaving the start, but finished her race off nicely. The daughter of Potala Palace would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.

Jockey: C Zackey – Trainer: M/A Azzie
BARTHOLDI was running on when fourth in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time. He has won twice from three starts on this course. The 5yo gelding has won over this distance in the past. Craig Zackey retains the ride and the son of Act Of War can notch up his sixth career victory.
Race 8: PERFECT WITNESS (3)
Jockey: G Lerena – Trainer: C Dawson
PERFECT WITNESS bounced back to best form in her last start over 1400m at the Vaal. She received a bump leaving the start, but raced from a handy position and quickened up well. She has won once and finished second twice from eight starts over this distance. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, she should go close to winning.

WE’VE GOT TONIGHT was in need of his comeback run over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. The son of What A Winter takes a drop in class and can find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
