Race 4

A 3-year-old and two 4-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but the day’s value bet, ROMAN MISS is taken to lead the field home. She followed up her penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a fourth-place finish next time out over 1100M, just over four and a half lengths back from the winner, but she raced green down the home straight that day. She will have her peak run after returning from an 18-week rest and jumps from draw six.

XEIBY has cracked pole position and was slow away, but recovered quickly to take up the lead, only to not go on with her effort over the closing stages to end up in tenth place last time out over seven furlongs, 22.3L adrift of the victor, suggesting the drop in journey will be to her advantage. She will also have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

SUCCESSFUL is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over 1300M, 2.7L back from the winner, when returning from a 20-week break, but she had to be eased at the 900M mark in that event, before finishing strongly from some way back. She on the other hand is drawn the widest of them all in gate nine, but she should be doing her best work late.

Race 5

BOBBY SHIRAZ put in a disappointing last start when finishing second next time out over today’s c&d, six and a half lengths back from the winner, but he jumped awkwardly that day, before delivering a powerful finish over the latter stages. On that effort, he should appreciate the extra ground that is on offer here and from gate seven, he looks to be the one that they all must beat.

Two 4-year-old fillies could chase him home, with the slight preference going to PLATINUM ASSET who won her last start over a mile, despite coming three wide into the home straight and her jockey putting up 0.5kgs overweight. She is sure to put her pole position to good use.

NEVER BIRD won over a mile three runs back, finished eighth in her penultimate start over 2100M and then third in her latest outing over ten furlongs, 3.3L behind the winner, but she ran on strongly on that occasion and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She is drawn on the outside in gate eleven, but she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

Race 6

DRUNKEN SAILOR has only had two runs to date, finishing tenth on debut over seven furlongs and then showing the expected improvement to win by 1.3L next time out over the same trip, notwithstanding overracing in the early and middle stages. He would have come on further with that run under his belt and from his handy draw two, he is made the best bet on the day’s card.

OBELIUS has consistent formlines to his name having finished third in his two runs prior to ending up in fourth spot last time out over 1350m, 2.2L off the winner. He made good late progress in that event and should enjoy going the extra distance here. The gelding is drawn one outside the top pick and should be right up there when they hit the line.

IMPERIONESS is a 5-year-old mare taking on boys, but she has finished second in her last two starts, the latest over 1500M, one and a half lengths back from the winner. She struck the front at the entrance to the home straight that day and was only snared late. The form of that race has also been franked and from one gate outside the latter, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

As with the first leg of the day’s Jackpot, fillies and mares could dominate the finish to this race and secure the trifecta. LITTLE BIT FLASH won her penultimate start over 1100M and then finished fifth next time out over the same sprint trip, 5.3L behind the winner, but she was forced to race three wide without cover that day and was returning from a 24-week spell. She will have to negotiate a wide gate nine, but she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways in this line-up.

TOKYO ICE was slow away and was reported to have lost a shoe in running when finishing third in her latest outing over five furlongs, but beaten just a head. She has pulled gate seven and should turn in another honest performance today.

ALLANDE showed solid improvement when finishing second over 1150M last time out when having her first run for her new trainer, just under a half-length back from the winner. She gets a cosy draw four and should be included in all bets.
