Race 5

UNSTOPABULL jumped awkwardly bumping another runner, but stayed on well to finish second last time out over 1000M, 1.8L behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. From draw five and with non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd in the irons, he looks to be the one to side with here.

EYE OF THE FIRE has cracked pole position and won over 1200M three runs back, finished fourth in his penultimate start over the same sprint trip and then fourth in his latest outing over 1300M, just over a half-length behind the winner, but he overraced in front in the early and middle stages and was only run out of it late.

BETSY’S FLAG is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she showed plenty of toe when finishing fifth last time out over 1300M, three and a half lengths back from the winner and from a handy draw two and with 4kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she should enjoy the drop in distance.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, SNATCHREILLY had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory last time out over 1200M by putting three and a half lengths between himself and the opposition. The colt went from jump to wire that day and whilst taking on stronger here, he retains the serves of ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham, so he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. He should also put his pole position to good use.

TANNENBURG put his disappointing penultimate start over 1200M behind him when finishing fifth next time out over 1300M, two and a half lengths back from the winner, when returning from a 19-week rest. The gelding jumped awkwardly that day, bumping another runner and had to be held up in the home straight until the 300M mark, so he had his excuses. The gelding faces a wideish draw eight, but on the plus side he will get 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

MONTE MAXIMUS was slow away and forced to come five wide into the home straight, but still managed to make good late progress to end up in third place last time out over 1500M, just over a half length off the victor. He has pulled a useful gate four and will have a set of blinkers re-fitted for today’s run and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

Race 7

WATCH MY GIRL is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name, finishing second in her latest outing over 1300M, just a short-head behind the winner. She came four wide into the home stretch on that occasion, but hit the line hard, only to be denied the win in the shadow of the post. The filly has her peak run after returning from an 18-week rest and from gate six, she will be hoping to go one better today and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

TENDERIZE has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when third over 1600M, just over a half-length back from the winner. He raced just behind the leaders that day and chased hard in the dash down to the wire. His jockey put up 1kg overweight that day and although drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. He will have a 2kg claiming apprentice in the saddle and could be the biggest danger to the top pick.

Although RICO SUAVE is recorded as finishing fifth in his latest start over 1600M, he was just 1.3L adrift of the winner. The gelding came three wide into the home straight, but battled all the way down to the line and whilst drawn wide in gate nine, he should nevertheless still be involved in the finish.

Race 8

THREE WISE MEN jumped awkwardly, finding himself towards the rear of the field and forced to come the widest of them all into the home straight, but stayed on well to end up in fourth place last time out over 1800M, just a half-length behind the winner. He jumps from a cozy draw two, will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and should not be troubled by the extra distance.

VADAMOS QUEEN is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she had solid form prior to being a tad disappointing when finishing sixth last time out over 1800M, 5.2L adrift of the winner. She did come three wide into the home straight that day, but kept on chasing down to the wire and from draw four and with 2kgs taken off her back, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

IMEZAAKI stayed on well when finishing seventh last time out over 1600M, just under five lengths adrift of the victor. He on the other hand is drawn out wide in gate eleven, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race. The gelding should be included in all bets.
