Race 5

LYGON STREET jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner, but recovered quickly to pick up the lead, only to be run out of it late when finishing second in his first run in Australia over 2000M since arriving from Ireland, just a length behind the winner. He was returning from a 41-week spell that day and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding would have come on further with that run under his belt and whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

TOMMY THUG has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second over 1500M, two lengths behind the winner, when returning from a 41-week break, but he did race three wide without cover in that event, before staying on well over the closing stages. He is drawn one inside the top choice and could be his biggest danger.

TENNIEL is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over 1600M, just under three lengths back from the winner. She jumped awkwardly on that occasion, bumping another runner, but made good late progress over the latter stages. The filly has cracked pole position and should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

IT’S A WONDER is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she has posted two solid last runs, the latest when finishing fourth last time out over 1600M, 0.8L back from the winner. She hit the line hard that day and from draw seven, she should be doing her best work late.

AIX EN PROVENCE followed up his penultimate run victory over 1400M with a second-place finish next time out over 1500M, just a head back from the winner. He raced just behind the leader that day and was only grabbed in the shadow of the post. The gelding is sure to put his pole position to good use.

RED COBRA came from some way back to finish ninth last time out over 1600M, just over four lengths adrift of the victor. He has a handy draw three and will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, TAKING THE MIKKI has consistent formlines to his credit and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1200M with a second-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, just a head back from the winner. He raced three wide without cover in that event and came four wide into the home straight, before staying on well over the latter stages, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. The gelding has a useful draw two and gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause.

IMASUPERSTAR had his consistency rewarded with a just under a half-length victory last time out over 1200M, notwithstanding losing a length at the start. He struck the front at the 200M mark and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The gelding is drawn gate five and will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

THERE THERE is a 4-year-old filly taking on boys, but she was crowded at the start and was badly held up at the 150M pole when ending up in seventh spot last time out over 1200M, two and a half lengths behind the winner. She will have to negotiate a wide draw twelve, but with better luck in running, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. However, two 3-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but COSY CORNER is taken to lead the field home. She has consistent formlines and tried to go from jump to wire when finishing third in her latest outing 1100M, 1.7L off the winner, when returning from a 20-week rest. The filly has a cosy draw four and will have 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice and is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

DRAMA DODGER missed out on her hat-trick after victories over 1000M and 1200M when finishing seventh last time out over 1200M, four lengths behind the winner, but she jumped awkwardly on that occasion, bumping another runner and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight. She has pulled draw six and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

MORPHEUS BRAGI was bumped at the start and overraced in the early and middle stages, before having to check off the heels of another runner at the 600M pole and then came four wide into the home stretch to finish fourth last time out over 1000M, just under two lengths behind the victor. The gelding id drawn one outside the latter and should not be lightly discarded.
