Race 5

Two 3-year-old and a 4-year-old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but the day’s value bet, JAMAKIN MONEY is taken to lead the field home. She has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1000M with a third-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, just a neck back from the winner. She was slow away that day, but recovered quickly to take up the lead, only to be snared in the shadow of the post. From gate six, she looks the one to side with here.

PARTY DOLL was bumped at the start, finding herself towards the rear of the field and forced to come the widest of them all into the home straight, but delivered a powerful finish to end up in fifth place last time out over 1000M, 2.3L behind from the winner, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to her advantage. The filly will have to negotiate a wide draw twelve, but she should be doing her best work late.

TOKYO STAR was returning from a 26-week break and having her first run for her new trainer when putting 3.8L between herself and the opposition to win her maiden race last time out over 1100M. She has a kinder draw four and could follow up with a quick double.

Race 6

As with the previous race, fillies could dominate the finish to this race and secure the trifecta. ALLAPERCANTO put her disappointing penultimate start over 1400M behind her when finishing fourth next time out over 1500M, 1.2L off the winner, but she did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, before finishing off her race strongly. She has a handy draw three and gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid her cause and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

UNTIL VALHALLA jumped awkwardly bumping another runner and was bumped again at the 900M mark before finishing third last time out over 1400M, 5.3L adrift of the victor and the form of that race had been franked. The filly has her peak run since returning from a 19-week spell and from gate five, she could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.

INVESTMENT has cracked pole position and jumped awkwardly bumping another runner and came three wide into the home stretch before going on to win her maiden race last time out over 1600M by a half-length, at the fourth time of asking. She takes on stronger here, but nevertheless, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top choice goes to JACOB’S TIME who raced up with the pace, but then did not quite go on with his effort over the closing stages to finish fifth last time out over 2000M, 5.2L adrift of the victor. The gelding faces a wide draw twelve, but the drop in trip will be to his liking.

A 3-year-old and a 4-year-old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to OUR UPTOWN GIRL who was bumped at the start, but struck the front at the 150M pole to go on to record a well-timed half-length victory last time out over 1400M. She gets a handy draw four and should be right up there when they hit the line.

FRANKLY ELEGANT hung out approaching the home turn when ending up in sixth place in her latest outing over 1400M, 3.8L behind the winner, but gets a set of blinkers re-fitted and if this move has the desired effect, she should be a big runner here. The filly will have to deal with a wide draw thirteen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 8

This looks like another tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot. BAT OUT OF HELL was bumped at the start and never got into the race to finish twelfth last time out over 1400M, eleven and a half lengths back from the winner and was immediately moved stable and rested for 13 weeks. He returns here after three barrier trials, finishing second twice and winning the latest. The gelding has a useful gate two and will be hoping that he makes a winning start for his new yard.

BEAUTY RISING is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she was bumped at the 900M mark when finishing sixth last time out over 1400M, just under nine lengths adrift of the winner. The form of that contest has been franked and whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, on the plus side he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

VERBIL is the stable companion of the top choice who won on debut over 1200M, albeit by just a short-head, although it should be noted that he shifted out at the 250M mark and had to survive an objection lodged by the connections of the second placed runner for that movement. The gelding would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he may well be good enough to chalk up a quick double. He is however drawn the widest of them all in gate twenty, but still makes a solid back-up for the yard.
