Race 5

There are three unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners SACRED FIELD may prove to be the best. He came three wide into the home straight and then hung out over the closing stages when finishing fourth last time out over 1100M, just over two lengths behind the winner. The gelding returns from a 39 week absence, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest. He gets gate six and should be right up there when they hit the line.

LONDON has only had the two runs to date, finishing fourth in both of them, the latest over six furlongs, 2.7L back from the winner, but he was slow away and hampered shortly after the start that day, but stayed on well over the latter stages. He is drawn one outside the top choice and has his first run since a shorter 14 week rest, but he has also had two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest.

GIVARA has in turn finished second in both of his starts, the latest when just a head behind the victor over 1100M. However, it should be noted that he was bumped at the 75M mark that day, but his objection against the winner was overruled and the result stood. He returns from a 20 week spell, but has had the two barrier trials, finishing second in the latest to showcase his well-being and has pulled a handy draw four.

Race 6

As with the previous race, there are a number of unraced runners in this contest, so the same comment in respect of keeping an eye on the betting moves applies here as well.

MISS FABERGE had finished fourth in her two runs prior to being a bit disappointing last time out, finishing last over seven furlongs, twelve and a half lengths adrift of the victor, but she did jump awkwardly in that contest and raced three wide without cover. In addition, that was in very heavy going, which clearly was not to her liking. She was immediately rested for 20 weeks and returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest. She faces a wide draw nine, but she still looks to be the pick of the raced runners.

EDNA has consistent formlines to her name and jumped awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start, before coming four wide into the home stretch to end up in second spot in her latest outing over six furlongs, three and a half lengths adrift of the winner. She gets a kinder gate two and should turn in another honest performance today.

PERPIGNAN was hampered at the 600M pole when finishing fourth last time out over five furlongs, just over six lengths behind the winner, but the form of that race has been franked. She gets a useful draw three and will be ridden by 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey Jeff Lloyd.

Race 7

BELLADEEL followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second place finish next time out over 1100M, beaten just a short-head when returning from a 12 week break. He came the widest of them all into the home straight in that contest, before finishing strongly, only to shift out over the closing stages, so should be considered an unlucky loser. The gelding will have to negotiate draw ten, but nevertheless is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

BULLINACHINASHOP is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she put three lengths between herself and the balance of the field when winning her last start over 1110M. She sat just behind the leader that day, moving three wide approaching the home turn, before kicking clear of the opposition at the 275M mark. She gets a wider draw twelve, but on the plus side will have 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

COOL LAD had solid form before ending up in twelfth place last time out over seven furlongs, 10.3L behind the winner. He raced up with the leaders that day, but then never went on with his effort in the home stretch. He returns from a 22 week spell, but did finish third in his only barrier trial and does face an even wider gate fourteen, but he should enjoy the drop in distance and should not be easily overlooked in this line-up.

Race 8

The day’s best bet, CUSTO slammed his field by three lengths when winning on debut over 900M and could be just about anything. The colt took over the lead approaching the home turn and then stayed on strongly all the way down the home straight. He would have come on further with that run under his belt and whilst drawn wide in gate fourteen, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and as such, could prove difficult to topple.

FIRE AND ICE won his penultimate run over five furlongs and then finished tenth last time out when stepping up to 1100M, just under six and a half lengths behind the winner, but he overraced that day and had to be steadied off the heels of other runners, before coming four wide into the home straight. On that last effort, he seems sure to enjoy the drop in trip and from his kinder draw four, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

DIJON’S last three runs have yielded two seconds and the latest, a third place finish over 1100M, 1.7L back from the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from his useful gate three, he is likely to employ similar tactics here and could prove hard to reel in over the latter stages.
