Race 5

ASURIITO raced just behind the leaders and then swooped late to win by a half-length when making his debut over 1000M. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat, jumping from a handy draw three.

A 5-year-old and a 6-year-old mare could chase him home, with the slight preference going to HERMOSA ROSA who showed solid improvement to win her last start over 1000M by one and a half lengths. She was slow away that day, but finished well to win going away. The mare is drawn one inside the top pick and could well chalk up a quick double.

TOKYO ICE has cracked pole position and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a fifth-place finish next time out over 1000M, just under three lengths back from the winner, but she jumped awkwardly in that event and then overraced in the early and middle stages, before staying on well over the closing stages, so she had her excuses.

Race 6

FOURTH SPARGO is a 5-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she has won two of her last three runs, the latest over 1000M by 0.8L. She accelerated smartly at the 100M mark on that occasion to record an impressive victory. The mare is sure to put her pole position to good use and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card in her attempt to secure her fourth career win.

MASTER JOE had finished second in his two runs prior to ending up in eighth place last time out over 1000M, 4.3L back from the winner, but he was found to be lame after that run, so a line should be drawn through that effort. The gelding returns from a lengthy 41-week spell, but has finished second in his only barrier trial and although drawn the widest of them all in gate nine, he could be the biggest danger to the top choice.

GOGOL has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1000M with a fourth-place finish next time out when stepping up to 1200M, just a length back from the winner, this after showing plenty of toe. He now has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, jumping from a useful gate two and having 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, WHERE IS KEN showed marked improvement to finish third last time out over 1600M, just under one and a half lengths behind the winner. He raced just behind the frontrunners that day and then made good late progress over the closing stages. Whilst facing a wide draw ten, he should be doing his best work late.

PRINCE PAPA tried to go from jump to wire when finishing third last time out over 1600M, 2.2L behind the winner and from his kinder draw three, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

EASY COMPANY is a 5-year-old mare taking on males. She finished fifth in her latest outing over 1400M, 4.2L off the winner, but she gets cheekpieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, she should be a big runner here.

Race 8

ASTROGAZER has only had two runs to date, finishing second on debut over 1300M and then showing the expected improvement to win next time out over 1400M by just under a half length, this despite racing three wide without cover. The colt battled all the way down to the line that day and from pole position, he will be hoping to chalk up a quick double.

CAPITAL HEART was bumped at the start and found himself too far back when ending up in eighth spot last time out over 1400M, just under six and a half lengths adrift of the victor. He now has his first run for his new yard and if fully settled into his new environment, he should acquit himself well here, jumping from gate six and with 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

TRIANON was slow away and came the widest of them all into the home straight before finishing a staying on fourth last time out over 1300M, 2.7L behind the winner. The form of that race has been franked and from a cozy draw four, he should be included in all bets.
