Race 4

There are two unraced runners in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether either of the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for either or both of them should be respected. Of the raced runners CYCLONE RUPERT may prove to be the best. He finished sixth on debut over 1100M and then made the expected improvement to end up in third place next time out over the same sprint trip, 2.2L behind the winner and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He would have come on further with that run under his belt and from his handy draw two, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card. Although

EVER UPWARD is recorded as finishing ninth last time out over six furlongs, he was just three and a half lengths behind the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from draw five, he is likely to attempt similar tactics today and the drop in trip should be to his liking. The colt gets draw five and will be having his peak run after returning from a 21-week break.

ARMAGEDDON is the stable companion to the top choice and makes his debut, but he has had the five barrier trials, winning the first and the latest. He is drawn one outside the latter and makes a solid backup for the yard. The betting will be the best guide as to his chances.

Race 5

THE SEVEN SEAS last three runs have yielded two seconds and a third-place finish, the latest one of those seconds over five furlongs, 2.3L back from the winner. She jumped awkwardly that day, but recovered quickly to race just behind the leaders and then stayed on well over the closing stages. She does return from a 20-week rest but did win her only barrier trial to prove her fitness. From her useful draw three, she is made the best bet on the day’s card.

WE DON’T ROAM has her first run since a longer 28-week break, but has finished second in both of her barrier trials. She has only had the two runs to date, finishing second first time out over five furlongs and then fourth next time out over 1100M, just over five and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She was slow away on that occasion but stayed on well over the latter stages. From gate five, she could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

SUPER SPROCKET has finished second in her last two outings, the latest over six furlongs, just a half-length off the winner. She faces a wide draw thirteen out of fourteen, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much energy and should be involved in the finish. There is an unraced runner in this contest, so the same comment in respect of keeping an eye on the betting moves applies here as well.

Race 6

Two 3yr old fillies and a 6yr old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but FIREY PANZ could lead the field home. She has cracked pole position and has finished second in her last three runs, the latest over 1300M, just a half-length behind the winner. She raced three wide without cover that day, but still managed to battle all the way down to the wire and will be hoping to go one better today.

IDA’S RULES has only had two runs, both over five furlongs and has finishing second in each of them. She struck the front at the top of the home straight and was only snared in the shadow of the post, just a head back from the winner. She jumps from gate five and should be right up there when they hit the line.

ST ROSE is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over seven furlongs, just 2.3L back from the winner. She finished strongly in that contest and from her wide draw eleven, she should be doing her best work late. As with the previous race, there is an unraced runner in this contest, so the same comment in respect of keeping an eye on the betting moves applies here as well.

Race 7

DE FORERUNNER has consistent formlines to his name and showed plenty of speed when third last time out over seven furlongs, just over a half-length behind the winner. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and from a cosy draw five, he will be hoping to make amends today.

SISTRUM followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a sixth-place finish next time out over six furlongs, 4.2L back from the winner. The gelding raced up with the pace that day and stayed on well over the latter stages, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He jumps from gate two and will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. In addition, he gets the blinkers removed for the first time and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

BOOROWA GIRL is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when fourth over six furlongs, just 2.2L adrift of the victor. She lost two lengths at the start that day, so that effort was encouraging. She will have to negotiate a wide gate ten, but on the plus side, she will have 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.
