Race 4

MONTE KATE is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she showed plenty of toe and was only nabbed in the shadow of the post when finishing second last time out over 1200M, beaten just a short-head. She has pulled gate seven, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and could prove hard to reel in over the closing stages and as such, is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

RUNWITHTHETIDE had consistent formlines to his name prior to ending up in seventh place last time out over 1100M, five lengths adrift of the victor, when returning from a 17-week break. He raced up with the leaders that day, but could not sustain the effort. The gelding gets a handy draw four and will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

UNDIVIDED was slow away and was returning from a longer 38-week spell when finishing eighth in his latest outing over 1100M, just under six lengths back from the winner. He would have come on further with that run under his belt and although drawn wideish in gate eight, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 5

The day’s value bet, DIVINE ELLA is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she has only had two runs to date, finishing fourth on debut over 1200M and was then slow away, finding herself toward the back of the field and then not getting the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 180M mark before finishing well to end up in fourth spot again last time out over 1400M, 1.8L behind the winner. She jumps from gate seven and will be looking for her maiden victory here.

MEGA FIGHT has finished third in his last two outings, the latest over 1400M, 1.2L off the winner, but he raced four wide without cover in that event and was bumped at the 200M pole. The gelding gets cheek pieces re-fitted for today’s run and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here, notwithstanding his wide draw nine.

IRISH BLISS was bumped shortly after the start, but recovered quickly to pick up the lead, before shifting out at the 150M mark, bumping another runner and his jockey dropping the reins, so he had his excuses. The gelding is drawn one outside the latter and will be having his peak run after returning from a 16-week rest.

Race 6

Two 4-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but PINK BAROQUE is taken to lead the field home. She was returning from a 19-week break and was slow away, came four wide into the home straight, before kicking clear of the opposition at the 150M mark and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win her last start over 1300M by 1.8L. She has pulled gate seven and could give jockey Tommy Berry a double in the day’s Jackpot, should the top pick win the opening leg.

WILD CALM won over 1300M three runs back, finished sixth in her penultimate start over 1600M and then, although recorded as finishing fifth in her latest outing over 2000M, she was just over one and a half lengths behind the winner and her jockey dropped his crop at the 100M mark. The form of that race has been franked and from draw five and with a set of blinkers re-fitted she should be right up there when they hit the line.

TORETTO has finished closer to the winner in each of his last four starts, the latest when fourth over 1600M, just a neck behind the winner, but it should be noted that he had to be held up approaching the home turn on that occasion. The gelding is drawn one outside the latter and will have the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice.

Race 7

EMMADELLA is a 3-year-old filly taking on boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name and had to weave her way through traffic in the home stretch when finishing in third spot last time out over 1300M, just a head behind the winner, so she can be considered an unlucky loser. She faces a wide draw ten, but she will be having her peak run after returning from a 20-week break.

HEADLEY GRANGE won over 1200M three runs back, finished second in his penultimate start over the same sprint trip and then did not get a clear passage in the home straight when ending up in third spot last time out over 1300M, just over three and a half lengths adrift of the winner. The gelding will have to deal with a wideish gate eight, but he could complete the exacta.

HERB was slow away but delivered a powerful finish to win his last start over 1200M by one and a half lengths. He will have to overcome a wide gate sixteen, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.
