Race 4

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. LINE OF FIRE showed marked improvement to win his last start over 1600M by a half length. He jumped awkwardly, but recovered quickly to take up the lead and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The gelding has a handy draw two and may prove difficult to reel in over the closing stages.

COUNTY KILKENNY had his consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over 1800M, albeit by just a short-head. He struck the front at the 250M mark that day and kept going courageously. The form of that race has been franked and from one gate outside the top pick and with him having 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

I AM THE EMPIRE did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when ending up in third place last time out over 2000M, 3.3L behind the winner. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide draw nine, but with better luck in running, he should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 5

JUST GLAMOUROUS is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over 1200M with a second-place finish next time out over 1300M, beaten just a head. She battled all the way down to the wire that day, only to be nabbed in the shadow of the post and from her useful draw four, she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

SWEYSIVE has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts and tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in second place last time out over 1500M, 1.3L back from the victor. The gelding has a cozy draw two and is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

LITTLE JEANIE is another 4-year-old filly in the race. She was returning from a 12 week rest and came the widest of them all into the home straight when finishing in third spot last tike out over 1300M, 2.7L off the winner. She jumps from gate seven and should be included in all bets.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, BOSTON ROCKS is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over 1100M, 2.2L back from the winner, this after racing just behind the frontrunners and staying on well over the latter stages. He jumps from a handy draw two and looks to be the one that they all must beat.

SHINES has cracked pole position and has consistent formlines to his name, finishing third in his latest outing over 1200M, one and a half lengths behind the winner, but he was bumped at the start in that event and then again at the 1000M mark when overracing, so he had his excuses. The gelding returns from an 18-week rest, but has won his only barrier trial and gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause.

FIRE STAR had finished second twice prior to ending up in fifth place last time out over 1000M, 4.7L adrift of the winner, but it should be noted that he had to be held up all the way down the home straight that day, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding has pulled a useful gate three and could complete the trifecta.

Race 7

SEASCAPE jumped awkwardly and overraced throughout, but still managed to kick clear of the opposition at the 150M pole and then held on doggedly to claim a short-head victory last time out over 1200M. She has her peak run after returning from a 15 week break and is sure to put her pole position to good use. As such, she is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

COUNTYOURBLESSINGS was returning from a 20-week break and finished powerfully from some way back to win her last start over 1200M by 1.8L. She has a cozy draw four and will have 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice and could be the biggest threat to the top pick.

KILLCARE BEACHGIRL has only had two runs to date, winning on debut over 1200M and then finishing seventh next time when stepping up to 1600M, 4.3L off the winner, but she did jump awkwardly on that occasion, bumping another runner. She returns from a 22-week rest, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials. From one gate inside the latter, the filly should be involved in the finish.
