Race 4

A small but competitive field starts off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. STORM KING had his consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over nine furlongs, albeit by just a head. He jumped awkwardly, but recovered quickly to take up the lead and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The gelding has drawn gate six, and could follow up here with a quick double.

LOOSE LOVE goes for his hat-trick after victories over a mile and the latest over ten furlongs by 1.3L, despite overracing in the early and middle stages. He is drawn one inside the top choice and the trio is very much on the cards.
SPROUT WINGS is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has cracked pole position and won her last start over a mile by a half-length, when returning from a 32-week break. She delivered a powerful finish from some way back and did come widest of them all into the home straight to win going away.

Race 5

MISS HELLFIRE is a 3yr old filly taking on males and has consistent formlines to her name, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, two and a half lengths back from the winner, but it should be noted that she was hampered at the 300M mark that day. The form of that race has been franked and notwithstanding a wide draw eleven, she could be the one that they all have to beat.

FAMOUS PEDRILLE has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fourth over seven furlongs, 1.2L behind the winner and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He has pulled a wide gate nine, but if he has continued down the same path of improvement, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

OVERLORD showed marked improvement when finishing fourth last time out over 1100M, 1.7L back from the winner. That was his first run for his new trainer and returning from a 26-week spell. The gelding has a handy draw two and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, TRADITION won over 1900M three runs back, finished fifth in his penultimate outing over 2100M and then fifth last time out when dropping down to seven furlongs, just over three and a half lengths adrift of the victor, when returning from a 17-week rest, but his jockey reported that the gelding did not act in the very heavy going that day, so that effort is best ignored. He jumps from a useful gate two which will aid his cause.

BUILLT followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a sixth place finish next time out over 1500M, two and a half lengths back from the winner, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight late, before finishing off his race well. He gets a cosy draw four and has his peak run after returning from a 17-week rest.

SPEED LEGEND raced wide throughout before ending up in fifth place last time out over seven furlongs, three and a half lengths behind the winner, so he had his excuses. The gelding faces a wide draw 13, but on the plus side, he will have 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Race 7

VA VIA is a 3yr old filly taking on boys, but she has been a model of consistency and although recorded as finishing seventh last time out over six furlongs, she was just under a length and a half behind the winner. She brushed the running rail in that event and then bled for the first time. She returns from the mandatory suspension but has had the one barrier trial to showcase her well-being and the engagement of champion jockey James McDonald would suggest that her connections are expecting a huge run from her. She has pole position and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card to give trainer James Cunningham the second last and last leg of the Jackpot.

BAT OUT OF HELL has also got consistent formlines to his credit and jumped awkwardly, but battled all the way down to the line when finishing third last time out over 1500M, just under one and a half lengths behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding returns from a 17-week break and has his first run for his new trainer, but did finish third in his only barrier trial. Notwithstanding a wideish gate eight, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

CONRAD overraced and understandably had nothing much to offer over the closing stages when finishing eighth last time out over 1300M, just under ten lengths off the victor. He has a kinder gate five and will have his peak run after returning from a 25-week rest. In addition, he will have 3kgs taken off his back for the services of his claiming apprentice.
