Race 6: INARA(2)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: SAIL FOR GOLD(1)
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK – Trainer: Mike BASS

The four-year old SAIL FOR GOLD is well in on official ratings in this graduation contest and he is the form choice. He sprinted extremely well in his comeback run at Kenilworth and of course, ended last season with smashing runs in the Winter Guineas and Classic. The Mike Bass inmate could find this trip a bit on the sharp side but he will strip fitter and his class should carry him through.

Race 4: PREOCCUPATION(1)
Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

PREOCCUPATION boasts decent credentials and could give this jockey/trainer combination a quick double on today’s card. The daughter of Snitzel fought hard when outrun late into 2nd after setting the pace over ten furlongs, four weeks ago. She is effective over the mile as she proved with a decent penulti- mate run behind a subsequent winner. The obvious concern is how she will handle this tight circuit.

Race 5: VICTORIOUS JAY(3)
Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

The three-year olds have it all to do with their big masses but they meet very ordinary older rivals and could pull this off. VICTORIOUS JAY has shown promise from day one and he changed his tactics to good effect with an impressive maiden win over this trip at Kenilworth in his penultimate start. He followed up that run with a close-up 3rd on his handicap debut in yielding conditions over 1300m on this track, six weeks ago. The Jay Peg colt has lots of room for further progress and he is drawn in pole position today.

Race 6: INARA(2) – TOP BET
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK – Trainer: Mike BASS

INARA wasn’t herself at Greyville during the KZN winter but will be much happier back home and could be set for another cracking Cape summer campaign. She won’t be wound-up for this contest but is the class act and is extremely well in on official ratings. The dual Grade 1 winning daughter of Trippi has experience on this track and she could take a power of beating on her seasonal debut. She races fresh so this trip won’t be a major issue.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 7: PRIVATE DOOWALEY(3) (Each Way)
Jockey: Xavier G CARSTENS – Trainer: Ronnie SHEEHAN

There aren’t many natural frontrunners in this competitive handicap and a likely sedate gallop is expected. PRIVATE DOOWALEY could set that false pace and the six-year old son of Doowaley is a serious contender. He tried hard when outrun late over further last time and could have the run of the race today. He has a decent track record and is better than his form over this distance suggests.
