Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: MELANDIA(10)
Jockey: L Hewitson – Trainer: Y Bremner
MELANDIA was supported on her promising debut in a big field over six furlongs on the grass last month and that formline has worked out well. She finished just under one length ahead of the in-form
DESERT WANDERER and the daughter of Seventh Rock would have come on appreciably from the experience.

Race 4: MAHIR(1)
Jockey: K Zechner – Trainer: JVA Strydom
This is a tricky staying handicap where all eyes will be on the form entrant MAHIR who was carded to race on 18/01. The consistent four-year old gelding crushed subsequent winner TUBULAR BELL over slightly shorter on this surface last time and is only 3kgs worse off despite the resultant maximum eight pound penalty. Of course the latter had a narrow subsequent win over WHITELEAF HILLS but could be a different proposition from pole position today.

Race 5: WISH TO LAND(4)
Jockey: T Gould – Trainer: A Greeff
The powerful Greeff stable is really well-represented in this competitive mile handicap where the slight first preference is for
WISH TO LAND. The chestnut gelding finished well for a narrow recent win over stronger rivals on the grass earlier this year and he can follow-up despite the resultant three pound penalty.

WISH TO LAND(4) |
Race 7: APOC(8)
Jockey: K Zechner– Trainer: D McLachlan
The veteran gelding
APOC is in good form having finished runner-up in three of his last four starts and he should make his presence felt. The top weight
HUMBLE ADDICT was only a head adrift of the top selection in early October and is 1kg to the good. He has kept his form really well in recent starts with the mile being the slight reservation though today’s potential lack of a strong tempo will aid his cause.

Race 2: FLAME OF FIRE(4)
Jockey: K Zechner – Trainer: JVA Strydom
The three-year old FLAME OF FIRE has improved rapidly since returning from a 12 week absence and she produced a creditable recent display in a minor feature. Admittedly, she has work to do at the weights but is still developing her best merit rating and certainly has room for improvement.
