Race 2 (Claiming): No1 – OWEN THE GREAT
Trainer: J Williams – Jockey: Benny Landeros
OWEN THE GREAT hadn’t been seen on the track for almost a year when moving to this barn, since then he’s put in a couple of very respectable runs over course and distance and at this claiming level. He was a rank outsider when finishing third on reappearance at the end of last month and occupied the same position two weeks ago. For this third run off the claim, he should be cherry ripe. ASSAY ran into the money following a break and should also be fitter now, while A LA OMEGA broke his maiden over a sprint trip, and needs to show he can handle the extra.

Race 4 (Claiming): No6 – PADDY O
Trainer: Karl Broberg – Jockey: David Cabrera
PADDY O can prove the best of these older fillies and set up a good day for her stable which has a number of fancied runners later on. The remarkably consistent mare is coming off a 53-day break but the last time she did that early in the New Year she delivered. The only change is that this is her first outing away from Delta Downs, but she’s looked good in her work and can follow-up her success on the last day of February. The best of the rest is UNDIVIDED who herself has been performing well after a break. She will be hard to keep out of the money, along with hat-trick seeking HONEST N LUCKY.

Race 6 (Maiden Claiming): No4 – HOBOKEN

The well-related HOBOKEN was a well-supported favourite only to give best to Money On My Mind at Sam Houston in early March, showing a liking for the dirt. It’s a run that at face value gives the gelded son of More Than Ready a good shot at going one better, although that will also be the intent of CORKY and WORLD. Corky returned to chase home a worthy winner over this course and distance and should be fitter, while World had the addition of blinkers when turned over as an 8-13 shot at the lowest claiming level, but has improved with racing.

Race 9 (Allowance): No6 – KANSAS CITY ZIP
Trainer: Karl Broberg – Jockey: David Cabrera
The best race on the card can go the way of KANSAS CITY ZIP on whom fingers were burned when he dropped to the $12,000 claiming level at San Houston last month. The five-year-old knows how to win and will attract plenty of support in his quest to get back to winning ways under a hot trainer/jockey combo. MAN U is a rare visitor to the race track and this will be only his fourth outing in more than two years. However, he came back from a year off to score at this level over track and trip, and needs respecting. QUALITY ROCKET had some good form back in 2017. He’s endured training issues but should be all the better for a much needed run back the other day.
