Race 1: TORIO LAKE(12)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Johan A Janse VAN VUUREN
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Johan A Janse VAN VUUREN
TORIO LAKE showed smart improvement on his hometown debut at Turffontein recently. The well-bred Oratorio colt displayed good speed and stayed on for 2nd behind subsequent winner Flying Winger. He should continue to progress and is the standout of the raced runners PREMIER SHOW also made good progress in his second start when this Mogok gelding ran on strongly for 3rd on Grand Heritage Day over this c & d. He is drawn alongside the first selection and is an obvious danger.
Race 4: WINGS OF CHARNE(5) – SCRATCHED
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Brett WEBBER
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Brett WEBBER
WINGS OF CHARNE continues to improve with each showing and the Brett Webber trained daughter of King Of Kings had an eye-catching first effort around the turn recently. She ran on strongly for a close 3rd over the mile at Turffontein that day and she should relish today’s extra furlong. That recent formline could be worth following.
Race 5: SHEET WEAVER(3)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Alec LAIRD
Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Alec LAIRD
SHEET WEAVER has issues but is a hard-knocking handicapper with fair recent form and he is threatening his third career victory. He had a pleasing last effort in a strong handicap over a mile, the formline of which has worked out well and today’s extra furlong will suit the Ideal World gelding perfectly. The five-year old is his jockey and trainer’s solitary representative on the card.
Race 7: CHIEF SIOUX(9)
Jockey: Juan-Paul v.d.MERWE – Trainer: Roy MAGNER
Jockey: Juan-Paul v.d.MERWE – Trainer: Roy MAGNER
The in-form Roy Magner stable holds a decent hand in this competitive five furlong sprint where the veteran campaigner CHIEF SIOUX can be rewarded for some good recent performances. The seven-year old gelding fought hard when pipped at the post by LE TIGRE after racing wide on the inside course at Turffontein two weeks ago. He was raised two pounds for his exertions but is 0.5kg better off with his conqueror and is more importantly drawn favourably. He should turn things around.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 2: FLY NORTH(4)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Barend BOTES
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Barend BOTES
FLY NORTH had little go her way but she still produced a much improved and eye-catching recent display in a fair field at Turffontein. Admittedly, she takes on stronger now but the daughter of Noordhoek Flyer could still have more to offer and she gets the services of another top jockey. She is the stable’s only representative on the day.
