While both teams will approach these matches as warm-up matches ahead of the Games, which will start at the end of July, these games are a World Netball ranking test match series and is very important to both sides. South Africa is currently ranked 5th and Wales ranked 8th.

In 2019, these teams faced each other twice in the Wendy White Test Series. The Proteas took both wins, and the final scores read 84-32 and 79-44. South Africa used this Series as preparation for their 2019 Netball World Cup tournament in Liverpool.

“Our preparations for the Wales test series are going very well and this is another chance for us to prepare for Commonwealth Games and get some game time ahead of this tournament,” said Proteas head coach, Dorette Badenhorst in an official statement.

“It has been especially important for us to get together after such a long time playing away from each other, compete together, settle combinations, and get the team ready.”

Sara Moore, head coach of Wales, had the following comments ahead of the two-match series:

“I’m sure the Proteas will be targeting medals at the Commonwealth Games, based on their recent performances, and of course we have our own goals for the competition, so playing them prior to entering the village will stand us in good stead.”

  • The first test match between Wales and the Proteas will take place on Tuesday, 19 July at 20:00 (CAT) and the second match takes place on Wednesday, 20 July 20:00 (CAT). Both matches will be available on SuperSport.
