In a world where women’s professional sports have often been overshadowed by their male counterparts, The SPAR Group has taken it upon itself to support and uplift women in sports. As a testament to this dedication, the SPAR Proteas have been the recipients of the longest-standing sponsorship of women’s sports in the country, receiving support from the SPAR Group for over 25 years.

This support has been instrumental in the team’s success, providing vital financial aid, marketing assistance, and covering travel expenses for major international competitions such as the Commonwealth Games and previous Netball World Cups, where the Proteas have consistently excelled.

Charlene Subbarayan, Sponsorship & Events Manager at The SPAR Group, expressed its privilege in contributing to the team’s achievements over the years. “The sponsorship has allowed the SPAR Proteas to focus on honing their skills and preparing for the World Cup without the added burden of managing a full-time job. We’re proud to be a part of the team’s journey and looks forward to witnessing the impact of the World Cup on future netball talent, inspiring them to reach new heights on the global stage”.

Beyond financial support, the partnership between The SPAR Group and the Proteas has played a crucial role in the growth and development of netball across the nation. With two million active participants in the country, the SPAR Proteas serve as role models for women and young girls, reinforcing the company’s commitment to empowering women in all aspects of their lives, with women’s sports playing a significant role in this long-standing dedication.

As Africa’s top-ranked team, holding the fifth spot globally, the SPAR Proteas are poised for a landmark year in women’s sports. “Their dedication and hard work have brought them to this crucial point, and it is now time for the world to witness the beauty and brilliance of netball and celebrate the immense talent it possesses”, continues Subbarayan.

“The Proteas have dedicated countless hours to reach this point, and it is time for us to reciprocate their unwavering dedication. We are thrilled to be associated with such a talented group of athletes and wish them the best. We encourage all South Africans to come together and show our support for the SPAR Proteas today and throughout the Netball World Cup. Go Proteas!” concludes Subbarayan.

This year marks the first time the World Cup has been hosted on African shores in its 60-year history. Taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from today until 6 August, the SPAR Proteas are playing in Pool C, competing alongside Jamaica, Wales, and Sri Lanka.
