Aviva Premiership: Leicester v Newcastle Preview

Aviva-Premiership-Exeter-versus-Leicester-Preview

It will be all to play for at Welford Road this Friday evening with semi-final chasers Leicester and  Newcastle set to lock horns.

There’s a titanic clash in-store for rugby fans this Friday evening as the Leicester Tigers and Newcastle Falcons go head-to-head in a match that could well decide which of these teams advances to the Premiership’s semi-finals.

Newcastle Falcons v Leicester Tigers

To Win (80 Mins)
Newcastle 11/4
Draw 25/1

Leicester  2/9

Leicester

It’s been a good season for the Tigers who find themselves fifth on the Premiership standings headed into the penultimate round of the regular season. They have been in sensational touch of late winning their last six fixtures. This run has been all the more impressive considering they have beaten Saracens, Bath and the London Wasps during it.

The Tigers will head into this one with a bit of a psychological advantage as they beat Newcastle 13-30 when the two teams met in the reverse fixture last October. They also have a handy home record this term winning seven out of their 10 home games.

Newcastle
The Falcons hold all the cards headed into this one as they are two points clear of their opponents on the Premiership standings. A loss here could see them go into the final week needing a win over fellow semi-final chasers the London Wasps, however.

This weekend’s visitors have been in solid form of late domestically winning four of their last five with their most recent Premiership victory being a 35-30 win over the Sale Sharks. It hasn’t been all’roses and sunshine’ for the men from the North of England though, as they went down 33-12 to Gloucester last weekend in a European Rugby Challenge Cup semi-final.

Verdict: Leicester  2/9
This should be your quintessential English affair with both sides likely to take a conservative approach due to the magnitude of the game.I think the Tigers are more suited to a spot of ‘trench warfare’ than their opponents, and that’s while I’ll be having a moderate strike on them to take the spoils in front of their home faithful.
