International Rugby: Canada v United States

International Rugby: Georgia v Scotland Preview

Canada and the United States will be looking to cap their world Cup preparations off when they go head-to-head on Sunday the 8th of September.

Neighbours Canada and America will square off this Sunday in the sides final games prior to the kick-off of the 2019 World Cup. The Americans have had the wood over their opponents for quite some time now and come into this one as big favourites.

Canada
Canada will be looking to avenge their 47-19 defeat at Infinity Park when they take on the Americans’ for the second time in the space of two months. The Canadian’s looked all at sea during the aforementioned encounter and haven’t made any tangible progress since suffering defeats to both Tonga and Fiji since the mauling in America.

While the Canadian’s have some decent players among their ranks – DTH van Der Merve is certainly one to look out for this weekend – they have a rather limited side who don’t really have the skillset to compete with this well-drilled United States outfit.

United States
Gary Gold’s men have enjoyed a decent build-up to the World Cup, winning two of their Pacific Nations Cup clashes – one of these was the big win over Canada while the other was a three-point victory over much-fancied Samoa.

The American’s have a solid game plan and a dangerous backline with pivot AJ MacGinty being the commander in chief. While MacGinty has a slick set of hands, he’s also a prolific tactical kicker and goal kicker.

Verdict: United States (-)
I sense the Canadian’s are in for a long old night at BC Place. The American’s are a far superior side and should register a win in excess of 15 points.
